Only two hours to go! It was really nice of the Australian and New Zealand governments to give us a day off today so we can watch the premier at the same time as North America
Any advice who I should draft in my GoT death pool? I'm thinking the Boltons, Jorah, Alliser Thorne, and maybe Tommen or Margaery will cop it this season.

I'm going full PETA on this. I think the Dragons are just going to slaughter everyone, then the White Walkers and then those three Dragons will just be all thats left.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.

Then they sign a peace treaty giving the southern half of Westeros to the Dragons and the Northern half to the Walkers.
Really? I loved it. They touched on pretty much every story line. I love the tension at the wall, and I really love how Melisandre is showing her doubt and (I'm guessing) her true self. Super interesting. And yes, Brienne totally killed it. I also can't wait for Cersie to go nuclear on Kings Landing & Dorne. She is without a doubt one of my favourite characters, I can't wait to see her get her revenge.

The stuff in the North was definitely most interesting. I've long since lost interest in anything to do with Daenerys that doesn't involve her getting to Westeros. Wandering with a Dothrakhi horde again, she's come so far in the last 6 years.
The one storyline that wasn't picked up is the one we've been waiting the longest for - Bran's.
Loved it. Great start to the season. Also redeemed the Sand Snakes a bit as they were very underwhelming last season.
Hated the sand snakes, they were the worst part of season 5. The fights were terrible, the sand snakes had horrible dialogue and acting. The whole saving grace of Dorne was Doran and well... that's gone now. Can't see something interesting coming out of that mess.
For the first time in a long time, I am completely underwhelmed and rather disappointed at a Game of Thrones episode.
The only interesting or meaningful advancement they made was in Sansa's storyline. Everything else was filler.
Myrcella is dead, Dany met more Dothraki, Jorah has greyscale, Arya is blind, Tyrion and Varys are trying to rule. Great. We knew all that for a year. Give us something new.
The problem is they tried to follow up with every...single...storyline, instead of pursuing a few and giving us that punch to start the season. And they didn't even come close to using the full hour (clocking in at about 47-48 minutes when you exclude the summaries and title sequence).
I guess on the bright side that means we still have the powerful moments yet to come, but that is a punch in the #### to people who had to wait a year for something, anything to get resolved from season 5.
5/10.

Good start to the season, it was about what I expected. I was happy to see that they got Sansa and Brienne together right away, I was thinking that her and Reek or Theon or whatever he is now running around in the woods might drag for a few episodes. Going to be a great season.
edit: my god, people praise TWD in that thread for how awesome the story line is and how great of a job they do, and GoT has one semi-slow episode and everyone is all over them.. does not compute. I guess when the bar is set so high.. I am not sure what people expected for a season opener, honestly we got more than I thought we would. Doran Martell, the ruler of Dorne was assassinated, how is that not a massive plot point in itself? I hate to see Hotah get his like that though, we never even get to see how bad ass of a fighter he most likely is..

I thought that was great. Almost a perfect start to the season. Followed up on everything without just giving everyone away. I was worried they'd do a Jon resurrection right away.
Arya got blinded by the Jaquen guy for killing Maryn Trant instead of doing her mission. Punishment.
I think Melisandre just is like that because she's always been hiding it. I don't think she's already sacrificed for someone, ie Jon Snow, like someone alluded to above.
I hope Sansa has some semblance of hope in her story.
Not really sure where Dany's story is going. Are they just killing time so that Tyrion's story can progress? The rest of Westeros? Will she even get to Vaes Dothrak?

Be fair, there is as much scorn as praise in the TWD thread, dating all the way back to the second season.
My biggest problem is that it felt like a 48 minute season 5 recap rather than a season 6 premier.
Completely forgot about the Dorne twist, though. That was definitely a new direction and some worthy advancement.
