Exactly. Those are impressive numbers for a player right out or junior. Any player coming out of Junior and putting up 0.6ppg is an impressive player. Never mind doing it over 3 years. Wait until that "small" player fills out around the age of 25-26, that kind of skill is rare for someone who will get repeatedly knocked down every game.

For most players who hit the ground running like Gaudreau did, "Huge Strides" would be putting up similar numbers next year. Most player's numbers slide in their second year. I would bank on 60 from Johnny next year.

Too bad he's only put up .57 PPG in the last 148 games after repeated blows to the head. The future does not look great for him as he is trending down. Don't want to write a kid off but I wouldn't bank on a return to form if I were a GM looking to acquire his services. One more 31 point season and he will be cap dump, nothing more.

They're good numbers, sure. They're certainly not elite though, which was the question posed.

At 23 years old with 5 years in the NHL he a solid top six player.
2010 - 0.76
2011 - 0.68
2012 - 0.57
2013 - 0.76
2014 - 0.40
You're telling me that one year of sub 0.5ppg on a Canes team that was dreadful makes Skinner a cap dump? Come on, this guy has played on a terrible team and has put up points that most teams would dream of. This guy is 23 and has top 6 skill on almost any NHL team.
Talk about what have you done for me lately.

Skinner isn't a cap dump in that he's useless like Clarkson was, he's a cap dump because he was signed to a contract that paid him for potential and he instead regressed due to injury and plays a different game now. Skinner is still a good player and I could see him going to a rebuilding team like the leafs or oil but the hurricanes need to trade him because they can't afford to pay too many contracts that are over priced. It's a situational thing; Skinner on another team would just be considered an over priced contract but the hurricanes have too many of them and need to shed some.
To me, Skinner wouldn't fit on our top 6 as we have too many small guys who don't play physical and he doesn't play the kind of game you want your bottom 6 to play.

Skinner is a good player, just not a player the Flames should go after.

Are you Skinner's mother or something? Why are you still arguing this?

I'd definitely take a gamble on Skinner if our team wasn't so small to begin with. I think a change of scenery would do him wonders. He's a talented kid.

If I was Skinner's mother, I'd be playing a lot more golf and doing a lot less work right now. Mother's cut has to be at least 5% right?

I don't really mind Skinner being small, since he'd probably eventually replace Hudler on the top line. He also isn't as injury prone as many are making him out to be. However, if we were to spend a lot of assets to get a good young player, I would rather us for for a defenseman than someone like Skinner.
Unfortunately, there are not/never are good young defensemen that are available. Since our top 4 is decent as it is, it may be smart to get a blue-chip young defenseman and develop them into the top 4 ourselves.

Either the Flames sign Gaudreau and Monahan to 2-3 year bridge deals for $4.75-5 million AAV, followed by a 5-6 year follow up contract for $7M+, or we sign them long term for around $6M.
If we do go the bridge route, the Flames will be paying a lot of money the season after Kent's predictions.
So yes, I do think Kent was quite conservative in his estimations. Particularly for Giordano. Though again, term is the the question.

Re: Kent's Numbers
Jeez I really hope Ortio earns a 3M deal with his play next year, as that means he is absolutely lights-out.

Off topic a bit, but is Bennett still 3 years on entry level deal starting this year, and last year just counts towards 1 year of eligibility for UFA?

No, the other way around. By playing more than 10 games, the first year of his ELC was burned, so he only has 2 years remaining. However, he didn't play enough games to affect his free agency eligibility.

Per @TSNBobMcKenzie, Kessel's OK-to-trade list: BOS, CHI, LA. MIN, MON, NYR, PHI, PIT. As in, a bunch of teams with nearly zero cap space.
Good luck with that, Toronto.

To be fair McKenzie said that was his trade list as of the trade deadline and that Toronto would have to work with him to see if he is willing to waive for any other teams or if the list has changed since then.

Effective way to turn a modified NTC into a full one though.
