I don't even know what I would do now if i were Mactavish. So many options. I think I'd keep RNH and Yak and deal anyone else I could get a return for.

I'm not too worried. Just think of all the new and crazy situations the Oilers can find to dig themselves into an even deeper hole. As a Flames fan I was upset to see them pick any of the first 3 number ones, but look how they've turned out.
If they keep that core around they will do enough damage to counter having McDavid.

Oh yea, I've read similar assessments, even that he would've gone first overall in any year of the last ten over guys like Tavares, Stamkos, and Kane. We're gonna do just fine with him.

Is this for real? Did I go back in time to April 1st?
This is so disgusting, the lottery should have been rigged to go to anyone but Edmonton.

One of the reasons Buffalo fans were initially disappointed is because their GM did suich a piss poor job leading up to the lottery. He was pumping up McDavid at every opportunity.
They're going to get a killer prospect at number two, much better then the guy they got last year in the same position. But Murray was just so focused on McDavid. Fans follow their leaders.

McDavid needs to quietly, discretely, inform the oilers that he wont report and that they should trade him. Him accepting that draft position will destroy his career before it even starts.

I would be trying to convince McDavid that he should put some priority into his education, then try to get the best college deal possible.
And Mac-T blathering away and bragging about getting the first pick and talking about how much they celebrated. Utterly embarrassing.

Yup when a angry Sam Bennett try's to prove that he's the best center in Alberta and plows over McDavid 8 times again.

And it will definitely help Edmonton get a quality coach too. I'm sure some good coaches would love to get their hands on McDavid.
Not one of their other 1st overalls carried talent this guy does.
Im happy for my Oiler fan friends who've suffered far too long that they get this kid. Hate that the Oilers got him. If that makes sense. Don;t really care about the rest of the nincompoop fan base but the ones I know are good eggs. they deserve McDavid at the very least.

Get out.

It's your boy Acey checking in from ground zero.
There seems to be a recurring theme up here. A frightening number of people genuinely believe this team with McDavid is capable of winning multiple Stanley Cups as soon as 2017. One season ticket holder I talked to was ready to order a McDavid jersey, calling it "unfathomable" for him not to report because, if he's patient, Edmonton is his highest chance of success of any team in the National Hockey League. Another STH said something similar, calling the Lindros situation completely irrelevant because of the "epic" history of the Edmonton Oilers. Lots of histrionics up here; fans seem happy to live in oblivion, quick to brush off the fact that the Coilers are an embarrassment to professional sports. Many are ready to completely disregard the ongoing trainwreck because wonder boy is on his way. Sad, really.
I wasn't here back then, but the implication is that these were the same kind of feelings fans had in '11 after RNH and '12 after Yak. Oddly enough, the most appropriate response I heard tonight was from a girl who was clearly nothing more than a casual fan, saying she was "cautiously optimistic". I should have tried to pick her up right then... she might be the only one with a brain in this town.

This does not get the Oilers out of the bottom 10 teams, next year, or the 2 other years on McDavid's ELC. After that, cap problems and they regress, and rebuild #4 begins.
This does secure Lowe + MacT's jobs further though.
