If the Flames really haven't made a decision yet, I would be pretty disappointed in Treliving. When you're the guy in charge, at some point you have to make up your mind.

It's a hard decision to make.

Two rounds of playoffs on the other hand, is franchise-changing. It would be huge for this team.
It also means between $5 and $10M in profits for the owners, not that you would care about that,
I can only assume you were joking.

An extra year of the ELC gives us cap space to make other moves as well. It doesn't hurt to take Sam slow. Treliving has emphasized that numerous times.

I'm 50/50 on ELC vs 2nd round. If Sam lives uo to his potential, his cap hit could be significant. More time never hurt. End of the day I'd rather win a Cup or two during Sam's Prime than make the second round on fumes eithout Giordano, Ortio, etc only to get rolled by Playoff Kings. I mean, if I can have both, give me both. But I'd err towards caution. If this is a second round team without Sam/Gio that's preferable.
The EXP is good, but that extra year of ELC... i just think of the 2010 Blackhawks and even this year's Kings with their RFA studs.

I was of the view that he wouldn't play against Edmonton regardless. Hartley likes to give guys a couple practices first.
I could see the Arizona game though.

He practiced with the team for a couple months I believe so he has that benefit that other call ups have not had. I agree though that he likely won't play against Edmonton even if he is called up. But I would love to see him in that game.

Yes, but for only one year, which doesn't provide much flexibility. If you know you have to sign him next year, you can't go out and sign a UFA to anything more than a one-year deal. And you aren't going to get anyone significant on a one year deal.
Yes, Treliving has emphasized slow many times. But no GM means foregoing playoffs when they are talking about going slow.
That would be the very definition of missing the forest for the trees.

I feel like you are making this seem like it's a clear-cut decision when it really isn't. I guarantee Treliving wants him to play, but he also wants to think about the future of this team.

The "taking it slow" conversation is a farce anyway. Bennett had a legitimate shot at making the team if he hadn't been injured. You play your best players when they are available to you.

The other thing (which the Habs did with Subban at least) is they can always bridge contract Bennett to get value that way.

Also, given Bennett's character I can't help but think that sending him to the AHL would be very frustrating...
This season's success is found money anyways...let's double down and give Bennett the experience of chasing the NHL playoffs...its an investment in his experience IMHO.

Diaz' injury and Wotherspoon using the last AHL call up almost forces Calgary's hands now to bring Bennett to Calgary. Perhaps if they didn't have to call Wotherspoon up, they would have sent him to the AHL for a game or two, but now that they're out, they'll have to bring him to the Flames if they want to give themselves the option to play him this year.

There are sometimes quirks in the CBA that make teams not want to make moves official until after certain time has passed. 5:00pm ET is the cutoff for the daily roster. There may be some reason that the Flames don't want him to be officially on the roster today (it's usually a factor before the trade deadline because of roster size limits), so they could be holding off on announcing it until after 5:00pm ET.
There could also be an issue if they're sending him to the AHL and make it public too soon, that they'd have to send him to San Antonio to meet the team. Once it's no longer feasible to send him to Texas, they can announce he's going to Adirondack and will meet the team in Toronto.
I have no information, just speculating as to possible reasons why nothing has been announced, even if they've already informed Sam of the decision.

No, I don't think I am. I am simply stating that, between the two choices - 2nd round of the playoffs or saving a year of his ELC - getting to the 2nd round is by far the better choice.
And I would be very disappointed in Treliving if he didn't agree.

I don't think that's correct, since Subban spent the season in the AHL.

Almost 24 hours since the Frontenacs were eliminated. You would think the management would of had planned this decision before all this. I guess not...

Probably taking it slow, trying to see if they can sign him to an ELC before they call him up. This might be the last time they have any sort of leverage on the kid.

The most logical thing for me is to call him up. It isn't going to hurt the Flames and might even make them better. That's what it's all about isn't it? The team. Getting a bit tired of hearing the 'not good for his development' line trotted out. Sod that! What's going to be good for his development playing what is likely going to be 8 meaningless games in Adirondack?
If you have an opportunity to bring a forward in who is likely to help a team which is desperately looking for secondary scoring, why would you not do it? How is he going to harm us? We're in a position to make the playoffs and could do with all the ammunition we can get. We're talking about a guy here who was better in training camp than a lot of other players.
No brainer for me!
