The Quest stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little, and it will fail, to the ruin of all. Yet hope remains while the Company is true. Go Flames Go!
I like to give American broadcasters a little more leeway than our Canadian guys, since it's probably behind all the other 3 pro sports in terms of interest. But my god, that was embarrassingly terrible.

I was watching the Dallas feed (and have a few times) and was actually impressed with it overall. But yeah, when they said this it was not so good.
But for the most part they called the game well and were quite complimentary of the Flames and knew a lot about the players.

Maybe protecting himself from Mony's awesomeness? That is really the only logical explanation here.

Well it's not that they are wrong, Monahan was going in at an angle for contact, it's that the defense was a stick to the face. The oh they got him up high comment is ludicrous, a direct head shot gets a dismissive response like that? If it was Crosby they'd be calling for his suspension. That was the cringe worthy part.

Monahan is about 6"5" on skates. When you watch the replay you see Ritchie reaching up for the head contact - intentional and on purpose. It was only Monahan's last second reaction that prevented this being a much more serious incident - but there was nothing put pure intent to make head contact on the part of Ritchie.

Oh I don't disagree. Ritchie was in no way right to do so, just that technically and semantically the announcers weren't incorrect which is what makes it so deplorable. They took the cowardly way out of handling it.
I also watched the stars broadcast (Flames seem to do better when I tune in the opposition's coverage), and agree that the calling of the game was pretty good, but man, that butt end to the face is indefensible.
