Hooks and hold were rampant. Goalies weren't great and had super small pads. Defense was poor and there were mistakes galore.

Yeah when I think obstruction I tend to think of the mid-90's and widespread use of the trap, left wing lock, and other defensive systems used in conjunction to clutch and grab obstruction to slow down the game. In the 80's the defensive play wasn't that great as a whole and you didn't see a lot of restrictive systems but the game was more dirty and more was let go.
Oh man Hiller needed to have that one. The gams is going to be decided by the goaltenders and which one is going to be less bad than the other.
