Players change. I don't believe that means they take it easy in their off-season training regimen, or change their nutritional habits.
Most prospects take things even more seriously when they transition to pro. I don't see a reason to assume otherwise for Baertschi. On-ice performance != work ethic/dedication, but I suspect it's difficult for a lot of people who aren't actually involved in the organization to tell otherwise.

I remeber hearing that about Sven when he was drafted the Flames loved his work ethic and the fact he was a first/last guy on/off the ice. I think where things went wrong was the unrealistic expectations that occurred with the 3 goals in 5 games. Even after the lockout started he was by far the best player on the Heat to start the year. He got injured and never seemed the same IMO. He remarked he wanted to be the franchise player the summer before we drafted Monahan and put even more pressure on himself. He has struggled since then.
Then you have him pouting about being sent to Penticton and it seems like since then he hasn't been the same guy described in those articles Ashax posted. He has come across as frustrated and down on hinself and his situation which is hard to blame but to me it portrays he feels punished

He has had at least two concussions. They can change who you are to a degree and I wonder if they are playing a part. Lets not forget the broken rib this spring.

I don't know if he was pouting or not but in his first or second shift, he turns his back while along the boards and Nurse drove him head first into the glass. Nurse gets a 2 minute penalty but Sven never looks good the whole Penticton tournament.

There were some reports that he felt he shouldn't have been at the young stars tourney in Penticton. I can't say how accurate they were, but there was more than one reporter saying it.

No one can say how accurate it was. But it might as well been written by Mark in the 1st century AD with how many took it as the Gospel.

Should it just be disbelieved when more than one report said the same thing? Why should it not be? We're the reporters conspiring to sabotage him?

Because they were admittedly speculating in the articles.

Any word on Colborne beyond that brace coming off?
This thread is consumed by Sven very annoying. Can we not get a sticky injury thread?

Backlund is a guy that should have a conversation or three with Baerstchi. When Backlund arrived, there were lofty expectations too, and it took him a long time to develop into the excellent 2 way utility player that he is today. Backlund is awesome now, but it took him over 5 years.
If Baerstchi has a similar timeline, who cares as long as he gets there?

Nothing seemed to get Backlund down though. He always had a great response when he was challenged, and it showed over time with steady increases in his puts/game pace every season he has been in the league. I still have faith that Baertschi can get there, but the comparisons to Backlund don't really help to bolster that confidence in any way.

That's why Backs should talk to him I guess. Glencross could if he took the effort. His path wasn't an easy one. Or maybe Brodie, who took a while, and now look at him.

They said they took of the brace in Sunrise, so it was very recent. Imo, maybe they are planning the return with some of our regulars Thursday when we come back home.

After watching Johnny and Monahan tonight, I cannot wait to get the old Baertschi back. Flashes of what we saw from Monahan and him tonight.

At this point it's best to send Sven back to Adriondack and let him get in a grove with the rest of the team there. 6,7,8 minutes of game time isn't enough to get his confidence back and get him out of the slump. Right now, sitting at the end of the bench isn't moving him forward. Get him back on the Powerplay in the AHL and let him grow into being a reliable threat. Let him get on a considerable roll again down in Adirondack before being called up.

totally agree. Shouldn't have brought him up in the first place. We saw what happened before right when he was getting into the grove of things. I would leave Sven in the minors for a full season, let him get his confidence back before he plays in the NHL.

Right now Sven reminds me a lot of Yakupov last season.
