Could you imagine how much more Iginla could have produced in his career if he wasn't such a dormant scorer in the first few months of what seems like every season? Don't recall a player that was so consistent in starting slow nearly ever season of his career.
While Iginla has had some slow starts over the last couple of years, the idea of "Iginla always starts slow is not actually true:
Jarome historically is a very strong starter who slows down slightly. At the very least he is a consistent producer based on his first 15 games production.
The reality is the opposite of the myth.
The only years when he can truly be considered a slow starter is 2004, 2007 and 2011.

Jarome Iginla now has 12 career 30-goal seasons. Guys who did NOT accomplish that: Lemieux, Messier, Bossy, Selanne, Yzerman, Fedorov. 12:08 PM Mar 29th

There was nothing wrong with the hit on Iginla, however when Iginla challenged him to the fight he wanted to square off and he got charged. I guess he should have been more ready if he is going to challenge someone to a fight. Anyways, cant win them all, but Iginla has always stuck up for himself and always takes exception to being creamed.
Not many guys score 560 goals and have over 70 NHL fights.

Bruins want to re-sign Iginla, but must wait
Quote:
“It’s a function of cap space and ongoing multiple-year contracts,” Chiarelli said before his team’s 4-3 shootout win against the Flyers. “So it would have to wait ’til a minute after free agency begins (July 1). It’s an anti-inflationary thing. Basically it restricts you from going overboard on your future contracts. It prevents you from spending money you haven’t got.”
The B’s have $62.579 million committed for 2014-15, but the salary cap is expected to rise to just more than $70 million. Money will be tight, but getting Iginla re-signed is a priority for Chiarelli.
“He’s been terrific for us,” Chiarelli said. “He’s a veteran guy, he plays our brand of hockey and he fits in seamlessly with that first line. He’s been everything we thought he’d be — everything and more. I know Looch (Milan Lucic) and Krech (David Krejci) look up to him. There’s a good synergy on that line.”

According to Capgeek.com, Iginla has a $1.8 million base salary, and has already earned $3.7 million of a potential $4.2 million in performances bonuses. He’ll get another $250,000 each for the B’s reaching the Stanley Cup final and winning the Cup.

His January's have been poor for whatever reason but December, February and March are dominant compared to October/November.
The internet tells me the standard deviation of those ppg numbers is .72; given that Iginla's career average is .892 ppg, only January and April are more than one standard deviation from his average, which leads me to believe that what those numbers show is a pretty normal distribution.
Congrats to Iggy going on a tear and being named NHL player of the month!
Scoring goals down the stretch where the goals become more crucial for teams.
