-His job is to assess the organization (60 days)
-Evaluated the staff, the farm team, the players etc..
-Made a report to Ken King and Ownership group on his conclusions and where they needed to go
-His conclusion was that they needed to make a change to get to the next level
-The search has begun
-There will be no further changes, very happy with coaching staff

No need to fire the coach as the new GM should have the ability to bring in his own guy if he sees fit.

Question: Why now?
-I told Ken when I took the job it will take some time to evaluate it, thoroughly will take 60-75 days.
-Then I wanted to present it to the full ownership group
-Wanted to do it as far away from Christmas as possible, as soon as the decision was reached I wanted it done

Burke says he analyzed past trades and drafts and feels like the Flames didn't get full value.

Question: Why fire Jay?
-The GM's job consists of putting your staff together and trades, (future trades, standard trades and selling trades).
-You go back and evaluate those and see if you think we got full value for those deals, I reached the conclusion we haven't, and I don't think we got the most out of the draft that we could do.
-Jay is my friend, not fun firing a friend and I am not shoveling dirt on him

He was Feaster's former boss in Tampa. Feaster left due to disagreements with Koules and Len Barrie.

Why Weisbrod though, I kind of want to see how prospects like Gaudreau, Jankowski Sieloff turn out before canning him

3 jobs for a GM:
PUtting staff together
Trades (3 types)
Drafts
Evaluated drafts and trades and decided that we did not get best return from these. Will not discuss details.

Not saying Feaster should've done it, but I can see how the mistake could have been made. I suppose the Nabokov situation should've been some clue, but it was a lockout...a ton of players were coming back from Europeean leagues.
|
The fact is it happened to Feaster and it is his JOB, not mine, to know that the rule is there.
HUGE mistake on his part and he's damn lucky the Avs matched the offer sheet.
