From a hurricane evac page:

Turn your refrigerator and freezer to coldest settings. Open only when absolutely necessary, then close quickly.
In the event that you need to evacuate your home, unplug appliances to prevent damage in case of an electrical power surge.
|
Though it seems that would be in the case that you've already lost power. If the home were to make it through fine having not lost power, you've needlessly ruined all your food. So it's a judgement call, I guess.

Agreed, best to either go way south or way north (USA) and then go east. Or catch a flight back. Looks like almost all of the highway passes are closed south of Jasper.

There are mandatory evac orders in place in Okotoks, for streets near the river.

Route 66 between Bragg Creek and Elbow Falls is washed out. Probably be a while before they get this fixed.
Some guy on Facebook had an INSANE video of Elbow Falls up. Looks like Niagara. Crazy.

High River probably, so far. Though that's no consolation to people in Canmore, Bragg Creek, and people who will be affected in Calgary, Lethbridge, Okotoks, etc.

High River's main lift station has failed, sewer systems no longer functioning.

Perhaps the extreme east end flanking the Elbow - otherwise unlikely.

Yeah if the 150 people on rooftops is true, then it's gotta be High River... maybe Bragg Creek second as the whole town has been evacuated. And the high waters haven't yet reached Calgary or Lethbridge. It's going to get worse.
