Are the mods still in the process of checking out that source or was it determined to be suspect?

I hate to say it but I'd be quite happy trading Feaster out for Burke.

It has been mentioned many times on the FAN for one, other sources as well. It's about the worst kept secret that the owners are very hands on.

i could totally see Burke interviewing for Kings job. King will move into a hands-off the team management position focused on business development and building the new arena. Burke slots in as the chief of everything hockey over top of Feaster, and bobs your uncle.

What I'm missing in this whole argument is how some fans seem to have an inside scoop on what exactly goes on at the Saddledome every day.
I follow the Flames pretty closely and I don't have a clue what they do at work. I don't know who calls the shots. I don't know if certain owners have nothing to do with hockey decisions, or if they are calling the coach and telling him who to put on the powerplay.
Do you guys have secret sources? Crystal balls? Brass balls? I don't get it. This stuff isn't in the paper, and if it was, we probably wouldn't trust the reporters anyway.

<removed> Stick around for a bit, do a little internet searching, listen to Dreger, Duhatschek, Mckenzie, etc. Meh why bother arguing. <removed>

Why would Burke want this job? Really? He finally got the Leafs in the right direction and he get's fired so I just don't see what is enticing about taking over the Flames team that is in the same situation as when he took over the Leafs as by the time the team he builds trends up he will likely be a casualty of ownership tired of his brashness.

now would be a great time to take over the Flames for a GM...tons of valuable trade pieces you could make it your team from the start

successful teams don't hire new GM's and Presidents.
Ego drives someone to take on a franchise and turn it around into a winner. That, truculence and skill.

That's why we are probably looking at a new gm and president. We are not a successful team.

was more answering Erik Estrada's comment about 'why would Burke want to come here'?
because the Blackhawks and Red Wings are pretty set.
and I agree. Flames have a number of quality pieces that just aren't gelling here. Iggy, Kipper, J-Bo, the list goes on. Ditch 'em for picks and get to the floor, go young guns for a season or two, get Ramo over to North America, then start signing a one or two key pieces when you're ready to make a run. Most of all, play some exciting hockey, so even if you're losing, you're getting good bang for the entertainment dollar.

Wow. And it's not often I get to talk to an anonymous Flames insider who gets his info from the radio. What an honor!
The truth of the matter is you don't know any more than the rest of us, and we don't know anything. But go ahead, enjoy your inside-track that you get from Twitter and talk shows. I'll stay under my rock and recognize that I don't know jack-$hit that goes on behind the scenes, and oddly enough I'll know just as much as you do.

LOL. Some of those guys that Estrada mentioned have very good connections. You sound like a flames fan that does not think anything is wrong or just needs some tweaks.

Possible reasons:
-Burke has a deep respect for the Flames organization, I think. He was with the NHL while Hotchkiss was still there, and everyone at the NHL has respect for him, so that's where it probably started.
-Recall him with the full page ad, thanking the Flames fans and organization, after the Ducks 2006 win? **EDIT** Ok not full page add, a letter: http://www.canada.com/calgaryherald/...9-458c1fcfbbd6
-Pretty good friends with Sutter as colleagues, cut from the same cloth. I am sure in talking with Sutter, and especially the Phaneuf trade, he saw how, directly or indirectly, the Flames owners and organization acted, and worked to get that deal done.
This in addition to Burke and his ego, taking on a challenge and having full control. Not much else he has left to do Canada with other team, he's likely not working for the Oilers, and any of the big clubs in the US that he'd like are stable at the moment.
Not making a case for him, but I think Burke would know exactly what he's getting into with the owners here and so would the owners, both if he was considering, or being considered here. He would want full control though, as he had in Toronto.

Where do you get that idea?
It was actually just an innocent question -- a lot of people talk like they know what's going on behind the scenes, so I asked how they know this stuff.
I didn't think anyone actually believed media conjecture about a notoriously tight-lipped group of high-rollers actually counts as insider information.
I read Bob Mckenzie on Twitter. I listen to Rob Kerr on the radio. I read Eric Duhatschek in the paper. I still don't think I know what goes on behind the scenes at the Saddledome.
Some people apparently do believe they know what goes on behind the scenes, even though they just listen to/read the same stuff that I do.
I guess the gist of it is that if you think you know what's going on in the boardrooms and backrooms of the Flames because you pay attention to Flames coverage, you're wrong.

I am, sign the Flames up. I want a team that's tough to play against again. If he can turn this team around he will cement his name in the Hall of Fame in the builder category. It would be a miracle to turn the Flames and Leafs around in one career.

I dont think its safe to say the leafs are turned around... hard to base success on such a short season, the canadiens are in first place in the east for gods sake
