Billionaire Oilers owner Katz gave $430,000 to Alberta PCs

Not sure if this is really bump worthy, but CTV news noted last night that Redford and Katz were cleared of any wrongdoing.

Yeah they only had to return 25K that was from someone who lived in Ontario.

Investigation also revealed Katz sent in the big cheque and then collected monies from 17 other people after the election.

Technically not illegal.

The other unfortunate part of this is that it wouldn't have even come to light if someone from within their own party hadn't leaked it.

It's not something that would have shown up with the current reporting requirements.

So technically he could cut them a cheque for $430,000 and then just go and give everyone a bonus of $30,000 to cover the cost of his donation.

Well they would have to write a cheque back to him for the 30K.

Basically they would get a bonus from Katz after the election with the intention that they are to pay it back to Katz as part of the mass donation to the political party.

Nothing illegal about giving your employees a performance bonus.

It is sad, but there is nothing illegal at all about what happened.
If I had the cash, I could hand out money to people as they walked by a party office and ask them to go inside and donate that money to the party.
The election laws really don't have any teeth.
Now, if the PCs give Katz a hundred million dollars to build his new arena there will likely be some outcry, but again, not illegal.
