FAN960 general purpose thread

Like my first post stated, I get that people want hockey in this town. The point is that at this time of year there is very little going on in the hockey world and instead of talking sports, the clowns talk about fart jokes and other non-sports related crap with the odd mention of the Jays. Very little CFL and I get that they don't have the Stamps rights.

The morning guys may be great guys and work hard but they've got a way to go. The meathead sports dude schtick goes only so far.

You may want it - but the station does a lot of work to identify what works and doesn't work. Tons of NFL/MLB talk (outside the Jays) doesn't work. NFL Pre-season talk? That will get too many Calgary listeners turning the dial for sure.

What do you guys think of the new CBS morning show? This isn't really a FAN decision as it was CBS that moved around some time slots and changed some on air staff.

After a couple of weeks, they've grown on me a bit. December was already different with Dana having left Tiki and Tierney. Sometimes I wished Gio and Jones talked more about sports rather than rambled about random junk and making funny voices.

Am I missing something here? A good chunk of the 1st intermission on 960 is clips from the Toronto hockeycentral at noon crew interviewing the GM of the Sharks. Kind of odd to be replaying this during a Flames-Wild intermission. Is Sportsnet/Rogers mandating 960 play the Toronto hockey central clips during every game? Perhaps this is nothing new and I am just out of the loop.

Does anyone know who won the trip to Boston? They said they'd announce it live on air a few weeks back. I listened to the whole show, they called twice and never brought it up again other than kind of off hand saying they'd re-draw. I didn't expect to win, but spent a lot of Fan Points entering. Having worked in radio in the past I wouldn't be surprise if it was rigged and they just gave it to a friend...

I really wish they would have someone with some playing experience along with Pat. He doesn't have the insights into how the game works. Josh is good that was as he grew up playing/played junior A and knows the ins and outs of the game. Unfortunatly every time Josh makes a good hockey point Pat just railroads him and just gets louder to make his point. You cannot understand the game by stats alone.

Overtime is completely unlistenable now. The same 3-4 callers start off every show. They have nothing interesting to say, and seem to be in love with being on the radio. Pat is doing social work, instead of leading an interesting hockey discussion.

How can it be better? Less callers. Do more of a panel show with ex-players and coaches. Have a segment with a Sportsnet commentator. Limit how often particular callers can phone-in.

^ i was driving my son home from hockey practice last night and in the time it took me to drive home from jack setters to my house in new brighton they had two callers on - one guy suggested that the flames get camalleri (the genius forgot that cammy - as a free agent last july - signed a 4 yr deal with NJ). And then there was the same older guy with possibly a european accent on that I have heard before. PRattling on about how the flames are doing with the youngsters and blah blah blah - time for the FAN to block that guys #.

between this noise and my son telling me a dumb joke, i was very happy to get home and turn everyone off
