Every time I see a new post in this thread I think its suggesting we play again! I suppose summer isn't the best time to nail down 8 or 10 people for one time/date.
I'd really like to play some of these specialized maps with someone, or two or three others. Survival challenges, that sort of thing.
Not sure how we'd go about it though, short of bribing/begging Rathji to set it up on his server.
Setting it up isnt a huge problem from my end, if you can find the map.
What did you have in mind?
For me, July is technically out, because we are doing a technology free month for my family. Of course in the mornings , any time my family is out, any time I am at work, or whenever I feel like it it seems, I am breaking those rules because I am a true junkie. IN reality though, putting together the time to play would be really hard for me, unless we wanted to do it at 5am and cut into my Diablo playing time.

Heh, I've avoided Diablo3 because it would probably end in Divorce1
I'm not even sure where to start with these maps, but if there's interest I'll make an attempt to find out.
In the meantime I've been watching a series by Guude where the challenge is to equip yourself on the surface for one day, and at the end of the day you must go down to the depths and survive on Hardcore mode. One little wrinkle...no torches are allowed to be placed. I'm not sure how to "win" this challenge, short of not dying.

I think that's the key though. I found myself trying to think of something and then say it, whereas stream-of-conciousness thought-vomiting is probably more useful for the viewer. And maybe less distracting for the player.
Anything is better than this though...

Hey Mitch. I'm game to try something, like some kind of survival map perhaps.
Not sure how to go about it. The only 'public' server I've been on is Rathji's. Any suggestions?
I've never really been into survival maps, I've always just gone on multi-player servers.
My only suggestion would be what you posted earlier, the 404 challenge. Never heard of it until you posted the video, watched all the episodes, seems like a lot of fun.
So.. I got a new laptop about 2 weeks ago, and today is the first time I tried running minecraft on it.
Basically I have this error where I press the login button and it loads for about 2-3 seconds and then minecraft just closes by itself.
I went on "Can You Run It?" and it said I was a pass. But I read you can't have an ATI video card to play minecraft when I was looking up fixes. It says I have an ATI Radeon X1200.
Not entirely sure what I should do, can anyone help?

Can't have an ATI card? Really? My ATI Radeon 5770 works just fine, so I have to question that one.
Maybe a java thing? Try making sure java is up to date on your laptop.
Not sure. When I was getting java errors they'd either show up on my desktop or in my .minecraft folder. You could try searching your hard drive for hs_err*.log and see if you get any results.
More likely the problem is something else and these logs are not being created. Try looking through the events log perhaps?

Yup, I found 12 hs_err files. They all say :
Quote:
# A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment:
#
# EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x4fde1180, pid=812, tid=2388
And then a bunch of other stuff. What should I do?
Not sure, honestly. Quick google search says people solve issues like this by making sure graphic drivers up to date, launching minecraft with less RAM, updating java, etc.
How about those graphic drivers? Going back to your previous comment, can you find the site that said your AMD graphics won't work?

He said:
It's my ATi graphics card. ATi's are apparently not supported. I guess I'll have to buy a brand new Nvidia.
It was on a youtube video, I don't think this guy's right, I'm guessing he just had an out-dated ATI card.
I'm not entirely sure what to do either, I might have to stick to minecraft on my xbox for now I guess.
pretty sure that youtube guy was full of crap. Can you identify your laptop's graphics? If not, what is the make/model of the laptop?
Don't really know the graphics of my laptop, it's a toshiba that's maybe 3 years old. I don't think it had anything to do with the graphics. I'm searching the minecraft forum right now, found a guy with the exact same problem as me: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/...then+%2Bcloses

1. Update to the new snapshot or do a force update to go back to 1.2.5
2. You have malware on your system (not guessing, I can actually see some loaded in the logs). You should probably clean that up
3. The first crash log points to an a problem with the AMD drivers. You can try:
A. Update the drivers
B. Go into the AMD control panel and change the video card setttings 1 level toward compatibility.
A guy posted 2 days ago on the minecraft forum with the exact same problem as me, another commented (above quote)apparently updating the driver works. Do you know how to do that? I'm not the greatest with technology haha.
EDIT: Yup, I definitely need to update my driver, there is 15 missing updates
