Yeah, from where the C-Train platform is in that rendering, it looks like the Mawer building and the brick building where the steakhouse is are going to go. That's too bad, I liked that brick building, kinda like the other one that was demolished for Penny Lane.
I wonder if the parkade is staying.

In case anyone was interested (mainly for all you skyscraper and architecture junkies out there, like myself), the deadline for the RFQ for the New Central Library project was at noon today.
A little birdie told me that some of the world's best architects are submitting, so the next two months should be extremely interesting. The successful proponent should likely be in place by the beginning of September.
Oh, the suspense!

Druh tweeted this picture this morning of the new design for the Concord Pacific condos in Eau Claire. No longer a single building like the original Erickson design, apparently they did this so they could phase the project. A lot of the same design elements in this new version, but I did prefer the original curved design.
The model also shows just how terrible the pathway connections are on the south side from the Peace bridge to the Eau Claire pathway. What is needed is a nice wide straight path that intersects the Eau Claire path in a big plaza setting.

No, but I'm pretty sure Rem Koolhaus is one of them, of several.

That's great, but who will be judging these submissions? Better not be some conservative bean-counter, or it doesn't matter how good the top submissions are as they won't get picked.

I'm not sure I'm picturing that right, but to me a triangular intersection is the way to go. Pedestrians go in straight lines and the path structure should reflect that. Basically, look at any natural paths that have formed from wear and make those the official paths.

It's an RFQ, so I believe the process is to pick an architect (which is selected by a Jury - including the City's head of urban design and a couple others) and then the building will be designed - rather than a design competition.

According to the RFQ, there will be Stage 2, an RFP which includes conceptual design information. An honorarium is being paid for that work, to whomever is lucky enough to be shortlisted to that stage.

Is it just me or this this going to be a very slender tower? Same floor count as the Bow (according to someone on SSP) with less than half the square footage and it's on a rather small footprint too.
Also: is there a publically accessible announcement ceremony? That might be cool to attend.

Good. I'm tired of the fat pigs in our skyline.
