Votto's deal, wow. I'm not necessarily against his per year amount, but his contract length is one of the worst in baseball. He'll be 40 or 41 by the time his contract is done. How often do these power guys maintain themselves after 35? Stupid move.

He has a ridiculously low WHIP and his ERA is pretty solid. As well he's in the prime of his career. You can't necessarily judge it on his Win stats as that's more telling on his team. WHIP is a really good indication by most counts. Still doesn't excuse the team from the crazy contract.

The Giants were the 7th most valuable team in 2010 with $230 Million in revenues. I assume they collected even more in 2011 when every game was practically sold out.

the one problem I can see with the deal is Weaver just signed a 5 year 85m deal, which is an insane steal compared to the Cain one

on the bonus side, the Phillies have to be pissed, because they aren't getting Hamels any cheaper than what Cain just got
