Oh man, the entire cast of Dragon's Den should pool their funds together, buy the Coyotes and have each player & their agent pitch to them as to why they should stay on the team.
Its kind of funny to see this past thread title offer to purchase PHX submitted Monday. I mean Monday keeps coming around like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day and still no offer to purchase the Coyotes.
It should be more accurate Bettman sets eternity as the official purchase deadline for the Coyotes.
JTreliving I want to be clear that I am not currently involved in any plan to buy the Coyotes and I do not have any information about their future.

What I got from that interview was that he was in a relaxed environment and wanted to appear to have inside info. I'd be inclined to believe that even his Asst. GM son doesn't know what is going to happen with the Coyotes.

He doesn't have the money, his 650 mill' is made up of pizza chains and lube joints, his personal wealth is the business, even if he borrowed against everything to come up with 200 mill or so the team would have to break even and even then he risks his own wealth.
What are you talking about. Balsillie was approved by the NHL in 2006 when he bid on the Penguins and the court considered this still in effect. The later vote by the NHL had no legal standing. Bettman had the opportunity and was even encouraged by the judge, to negotiate with Balsillie at that time. He didn't take it and now we have this continuing soap opera and money pit.
Absent some changes... like the league pulling the rug out from beneath him a couple years later with regard to the Predators? Or like how he tried to utterly destroy all major sports' control over where their franchises were placed when he brought forth the Coyotes bankruptcy scam?
Don't get me wrong... I would have loved to have seen Balsillie own a team in Hamilton. It would have been one amazingly entertaining gong show. But stop fooling yourself. By the time they went to court, the league wanted nothing to do with him. 2006 was a very long time in the past, even when this saga began.

The way I see it, is that Balsillie tried going through the front door twice and when that didn't work out, he decided to play hardball.
Whatever the attitude of the NHL BOGs, it made sense to deal with Balsillie and move the team to Hamilton, even the Phoenix judge ( who you would think would want to keep the team in Phoenix) told them to make a deal and Bettman should have been practical and done it. What it ended up being is a pissing match where most everybody lost.

Selling season tickets in Hamilton before he actually owned the team was not going through the front door. He made a stupid play and it cost him any and all goodwill he had with the league.

A bankruptcy judge wouldn't let that interfere with their duty. Their job is to get the creditors the best return on the assets as they can within the confines of the law.
Balsille effed up, and burned his bridges. That's sad for him. He lost. Glendale lost. But depending on the sale price, the NHL will break even at worst, now, and retain the Hamilton market for a massive future expansion fee. Counting the fact that they beat back Balsillie's 'relocate without league approval' ploy, I think the league won this battle handily.

For all Balsillie's faults at least he had his chequebook in hand, more than can be said for the string of pretenders and tire-kickers that have followed.
