Fair enough - you're in a very tiny minority that thinks its a better tablet though.

I doubt RIM will kill the playbook - I suspect it will die of natural causes when the company is bought and parted out for patents, unfortunately.

Skype can now support video chat on a lot more honeycomb tablets! :-)

I don't know if you have an iPad, but feel free to load up the CPHL roster page....and scroll down to the bottom (western conference teams). I'm not a tech guy at all, and can't explain these things. I just know that this kind of thing was annoying to no end with the iPad. Is it a big deal to have issues with that site in particular? Only if you use it a lot...but then one site I do use constantly for business is largely flash based. Now the Apple lovers will probably explain how archaic that is, or how dumb that (mult-billion dollar) business is for using flash. I'm just a consumer who wants a tablet and wants websites that I use to actually work when I go there! That website was just entirely re-done in the past year as well, so someones still using flash for better or for worse.

Wanna check out some products online and consider buying? Off the top of my head both Canadian Tire and MEC have the flash based (?) viewing where you rotate the product as you like. Heritage Park has a map thats flash based on their site. These are just the final few that I recall. Again...I don't know if there are better options. I don't know if there is an easy fix, and honestly I don't care. I couldn't possibly care less whether Steve Jobs and some other guy from Adobe like each other and as a result won't do business. I just want things to actually work.

My wife has an iPad and for her work its great. She needs to show pictures to clients and its great for her purposes. It has a nice big display and she can do everything that needs doing. When she gets delayed she can waste time shooting birds from a slingshot or whatever. Its perfect. She just can't type a quick letter, use excel or powerpoint if need be (without buying more). No big deal...unless you want to do those things.

Cad tire has an app! Even shows you stock in your local store. Screw web based browsing!

Really? Alright disregard my previous post then! Clearly these apps have thought of everything If they can duplicate that distinct CT smell when you walk in the store then I'll be impressed!

I am with Slava, I like my playbook for work applications. It is a great way for me to bring codes, standards and specifications with me without having to carry hundreds of binders. It is much easier to respond to emails using the tablet rather than my blackberry keyboard.

My wife has an iPad2 and it is a lot of fun for sure, but I like my playbook for work.

I believe that is to come out in the next update! Ipad3 with distinctive store smells! Really helps to set the mood for online shopping.

Your flash non sense wins on all the other issues you did post about. I do not believe heritage park has an app

Hmmm I am too young to remember the VHS/Beta technical details so I can't say much there at all. From playing around with the Playbook for just a little while I would respectfully disagree. But then I also admit being an iPad owner that I could be (very?) biased. I'm also thinking in terms of the market as a whole of consumers. Power users/rooting is relatively small when it comes to overall market sales numbers.

I've always thought that content is king (and I'm also a bit of gamer - it is one of the main reason why I have the iPad.) Content is why the DS killed the PSP even though the PSP was so "cool" when it first came out and was much more powerful. It is also why the 3DS is falling on its face with the lack of software.

I do think the Fire will gain some traction given the sheer amount of content that Amazon could potentially pump through to the end user/buyer.

Yeah I am aware that some companies use Adobe Flash. I know people that still develop in Visual Basic 6 too. Flash will be around for a long time (and it should be - for certain things).

If you're one of the minority that visit a disproportionately large number of websites that haven't adopted (or can't adopt) HTML5/Javascript to replace Flash, iOS devices aren't for you. Just be aware that websites that absolutely require Flash to use are becoming an edge case.

But even if Flash is a must-have for someone, what advantage does a Playbook have over a Transformer or a Tab?

It sounds like the Canadian market doesn't get the Kindle Fire for some time. If I were to purchase a Fire, would I be able to use the Amazon content or the entire cloud in Canada? I know the browser and apps will work over wifi but will the streaming movies from Amazon Prime work while in Canada?

If not, the Playbook looks more interesting with the price reduction.

Kobo Vox announced today? I was buying some books from Chapters website and saw the advertisement pasted on the front page.

http://www.kobobooks.com/kobovox

So does this look like good competition for the Kindle Fire? I am lacking in the expertise in the e-reader/tablet market.

Looks very cool, imo. Seems like the Fire, without the handcuff to Amazon. Full access to the Android market is a huge plus for non-nerd types who aren't going to hack the crap out of their e-reader/tablet. I haven't used an AFFS+ display but they're apparently excellent, particularly for contrast ratio which will probably help when using outdoors.

ETA: Apparently there's some debate about wether "Full Android Access" means full access to the Android Marketplace. Also, the Fire doesn't have a microSD slot so you're limited to 8GB permanently, where the Vox can be expanded to 40GB via microSD.

I noticed that in the comments on Engadget as well. The website seems to specifically state "Over 15,000 free Apps for Android". Does that apply to Canadians as well? I never know when looking at some of these tablets if all of the features convert for us Canadians. Am I right in being suspicious of that?

But yeah, looks sweet. Full format support and not locked to Amazon. But, is the Lenovo A1 a better buy at $199?

Since Kobo is a Canadian company and they're advertising the 15,000 free Apps in Canada I would guess it does apply to Canadians. I get the impression this is somewhere between the Nook Colour and the Fire, but actually available in Canada before Christmas and with less restrictions on how it's used without being rooted.

How in the Kobo tablet on power compared to the Fire? I know I could research it a bit but I am tired and I assume someone else has already done or read a comparison

It's a coin flip if you have an 11" macbook air.

I am finding the macbook comes to work with me more now since it is easier to manage spreadsheets on. Around the house though, I always have my iPad next to me for reading/general surfing.

Some new info on the new Asus Transformer 2 (aka the Prime)

"affirmed that it'll ship with a quad-core NVIDIA chip, 10-inch display, mini-HDMI port, a 14.5-hour battery, an SD card slot and a top lid that looks precisely like its Zenbook line. Oh, and it's 8.3mm thick"
