A 2.5 million dollar bird in the hand is better than a bird with a flight risk in the bush for Arizona.
Arizona says they want to be good this year, how does adding a top line center for nothing off your roster sound?

Maybe some conditional picks on each side to hedge for risk both ways
I don't think Arizona does that. You are trading one of the best young prospects in hockey because he might leave for a vet centre that will leave. If they are forced to move Cooley they will want futures back imo.

Well I guess Nylander might be out.

No wonder he went spending.

I'm hopeful the new management is keeping younger players and the future a priority. Particularly our best prospects.
Trading Wolf will signal to me that's clearly not the case and we're in for Treliving v2.
Basically it would wipe away whatever hope I have in Conroy & co to start going a smarter direction.

Did Treliving sell prospects? I know he gave away picks for bags of pucks.

They don't have much. Matthew Knies is their best prospect and I doubt they move him.
Nick Roberston I would be willing to take a chance on. But he's another under-sized guy with not great skating. And he's had a lot of injury problems. But he's got offensive potential.

One of their other top prospects, Rodion Amirov has been battling cancer, and it's unknown if he will even continue his career.

Matthews, Nylander, Bertuzzi, Domi, Brodie, Muzzin, Klingberg, Lafferty, Gio, Liljegren(RFA).

That's a lot of expiring contracts the leafs have to deal with. You could argue that they are ready to move on from Brodie, Muzzin, and Gio. Meanwhile, Bertuzzi, Klingberg and Domi were 1 year rentals. However, the leafs are going to lose quite a few players for nothing after this season.
Six to one I was more thinking players that you better sign or trade this summer or they’re likely leaving as UFA next year.

I think Nylander is the only one in Toronto that’s a similar situation. Giordano probably retires. Brodie is a lock to stay in the area due to his wife’s health and their family there. Klingberg, Domi, and Bertuzzi they just brought in so different conversation timelines for those guys. Matthews is not going anywhere, it’s just a matter of how much. Hard to say whether they want to keep Lafferty or not.

Wheeler had them 18th in January, so it's not bottom of the barrel like Pittsburgh. No real game-breakers either though.

1 Matthew Knies, LW, 20
2 Nick Robertson, LW, 21
3 Fraser Minten, C, 18
4 Topi Niemela, RHD, 20
5 Nick Moldenhauer, C/RW, 18
6 Roni Hirvonen, C/LW, 21
7 Dennis Hildeby, G, 21
8 Joseph Woll, G, 24
9 Ryan Tverberg, RW, 20
10 Ty Voit, RW, 19

with the top 4 being in a bracket above the rest.

Good god, north of 10 million for Nylander. Surely that eliminates the Flames from even considering this idea.

10 mil is his ask. That's not what he's going to get though.

There really is no number that makes sense to have 25% of your starting 20 players be 30 year olds on max term contracts.

Nylander was pissed after he got 6.9 and Matthews got 11.6 and Marner 10.9. Justified or not, he sees the same thing happening this round after he just put up 40.

I would take one year of Nylander if we could get rid of Kadri for him.

Kadri, 2nd and B prospect(Kuznetsov, Stromgren) for Nylander

For what he's asking I would just let him walk

Pretty bad for Arizona.

Premium prospects have huge value and aren’t traded for 1 year of a very good player.

Lindholm would be an even greater flight risk.

I had reported before that Nylander is asking for Huberdeau money. He won't get it but he can ask.

Toronto wanting to move Nylander for picks, let’s offer them 6 years of a higher cap.

Toronto would be more likely to just take the 2nd lol.

Nylander got $6.9m for a career high of 61pts and he held out for it. it was the next year Marner got 94pts for his contract.

If Nylander is pissed about that then he's just full of jealousy and not a good teammate.

You make it sound like they have a super good GM that cannot be talked into thinking Kadri is a stud.
