Anyway, I guess I'm thinking we could see 2015 again if there is a shot in the arm, David Price type acquisition (2015 Price of course) by the deadline. The team is good enough, but just needs an injection of confidence in the pitching. Otherwise, I think the playoffs are missed and the post mortem is the sum was less than the parts.

The shot in the arm would be a new manager. Because to bring in more players with this manager will be pointless.
6 games against Tampa coming up, if you don't go at least 3-3, there is no reason to keep the manager. You'd be 7 games behind Tampa at the all-star break.

I don't think Jays management has any plans at all on moving on from Montoyo. My thoughts echo what most here think of him (not much), but I'm sure behind the scenes there's some managing up which Jays upper management is fine with keeping him in. If he has any development credit some can be attributed to developing his batters (if I'm being fair).
As for pitching this year, again if I'm being fair, that's on Shapiro and Atkins. I don't think the batting pieces were supposed to come together all at once so well. Shapiro and Atkins somewhat get a pass because the pitching wasn't supposed to be that bad, and in this year where pitchers are dropping like flies across the league, they can't come up with anything from anywhere without giving up a large payment in exchange. So that simply leaves this as a play it out season in hopes that they'll throw money around big time in the off-season. It's unfortunate Semien won't get to the playoffs as he's been amazing as a vet through putting it all together, but the Jays management can't trade for someone if the price is the kitchen sink. This off-season will be everything as there's no excuse as it'll only be a matter of money.

One big difference from that year and this though, is the competition. In 2015 there was no Red Sox or Rays playing .600+ ball.
This team could catch fire like the 2015 team did and still miss the playoffs easily.

Yeah, if they decided to pick up his option for next season before this season even started I can't see them firing him until partway through next season at the earliest if the team has a bad start.

Montoya does not deserve to be fired. The bullpen needs to be improved, plain and simple.

Now this is more like it. Keeping the foot down and scoring as many runs as you can is the way to beat the stupid Rays. Too many times in the past we’ve seen the Jays score early against the Rays only to be shutdown later in the game and watch the Rays scratch and claw back into games. Putting up a 10 spot so far and still having good AB’s is awesome to see.

Help, save, whatever.

Wow just checked the score and Manoah with a great outing.
Was he a highly touted prospect or has he just come out of nowhere?
If Pearson can ever get healthy enough to play and is as advertised Jay's 5 starters looking pretty good.

Can we just have one game where the bullpen doesn't get rocked?
I mean it's a 10-1 lead and just two doubles. But the first bullpen arm comes in gets one out and then back to back doubles. Doesn't inspire confidence for close games. Just ridiculous. Get it together you bunch of idiots.

Haha that was fun. Phillips seems like a good dude and was having fun out there. Was really hoping Vladdy would send one to the moon but got nothing good to hit.
Phillips still better than anyone in the Jays pen though
