I hear you, but how often does a so called "generational player" come on the market? It may require another solution, but if I was GM I'd be pushing pretty hard for it.

Chances are lets say in theory that the Oilers and Flames hooked up. Their ask is Tkachuk, Hanifin, Valimaki and a couple of firsts for McDavid at least, because if Chia trades McDavid he has to win the deal.

"The deal is one for one..."
You could actually almost approach value if you go Tavares Reilly.

Jony - mcdavid - Lindholm
Dube - Monahan - Bennett
Frolik - Backlund - Neal
Czarnik - Janko - Hathaway
Gio - Brodie
Kylington - Hamonic
Andersson - Stone
I think we have enough depth to make a move like that. Its not like we would only have 3 good players on the team (mcdavid, drai, nuge)
Take that deal all day.

It is really far reaching.

I'd get Monahan to play RW on the top line and move Lindholm to C on the second. Or move Johnny to a Monahan line and put some other guy like Neal or Bennett with McDavid and Lindholm. I'm not sure Gaudreau and McDavid would mesh well. But I do think Monahan would - McDavid needs a guy on the far post to stuff in pucks and Monahan can do that in spades.

Why even entertain thoughts like this?
It will be a nice enjoyable day in Edmonton before they ever trade us McDavid

You know what's more annoying than talking about Gulutzan? Talking about trading for McDavid.

I'm just not sure that the juice is worth the squeeze. Plus if a GM told me that I had to basically take on Lucic's deal, I would be like all Dragon's den with the I'm out, I'll just finish ahead of you in the standings.

I think you are just hating here.
Let’s take Columbus. You wouldn’t give up Dubois and Jones/Werenski for McDavid?
Barkov/Ekblad, Monahan/Hanifin, Keller/OEL, Schiefele/Trouba(Morrisey) Seguin/Heiskenan, Couturier(Giroux)/Provorov, etc
I think any team makes that deal for McDavid with 7 years left on his deal

Yeah, I'm an Oiler hater, that shouldn't be a surprise.
But I bristle at the over use of generational tags for players, it seems in every draft fans are applying that tag to a player.
I'm in the park where McDavid is a super star, but I'm still not sold on him as Generational. His game without the puck is a joke, his face off ability is a joke, his ability to win corner battles is a joke because he refuses to go there. He's to me a bit lazy during the game, and not working on improving aspects of his game that he needs.
He's been in that dumpster fire for years, and outside of a thump on a shoulder and a lets go, I don't see that much "Lets follow the Connor, he's our leader" picture.
He's awesome with the puck, he's blindingly fast, he's got great offensive instincts, he's the best offensive player in the league, but he doesn't really make that team all that much better. He does though drag Draisaitl's dead a$$ around like a expert.
Would I gut my teams now and future for him? Probably not.

i'd pass on that deal to be honest... just guts your team esp on defense.
McDavid isn't capable of carrying a team by himself...If he was, the Oilers should be better than what they are.

The Oilers literally have the worst depth of any team i have ever seen and are still in the playoff convo because of him. Imagine Mcdavid in Calgary with an actual blue line and wingers. It would be glorious

It's making me throw up in my mouth, not a little, but a lot. McDavid sucks, and no objective fact will dissuade me from this righteous opinion. My only hope for him is that he spends the rest of his playing career in Edmonton, never again making the playoffs, loses all his money on retirement, and ends up as 2nd assistant stickboy in Omsk.
No - *assistant* to the 2nd assistant stickboy. That is what I wish for him.
