My take. In general there are two kinds of successful coaches.
One that inspires/motivates, that guys want to play hard for.
The other makes you play hard for them or you dont play.
Both types tailor their system/player usage to the players they have.
Guys like Babcock, Bowman, Sutter combine these two types.
Which type is GG? Hint: he is neither.

Hartley's team was one of the most fun Flames teams to watch that I can remember. With GG they are boring and, if they don't even make the playoffs, this will be one of the most disappointing seasons I can remember as a result of being both boring to watch and underperforming. As a fan, I watch for entertainment. This has been a painful season for that outside of individual performances such as Smith, Johnny and Tkachuk. If the team doesn't win cups but still is fun to cheer for, that's workable for me as a fan. If they are no fun to cheer for, I just stop wanting to watch.

Just a few comments.
Flames games under GG are as fun and exciting as an open casket funeral.
This system is going to drive fans away in droves.
You have an incredibly mobile defense core, no sense in playing to that advantage.
I remember when the Flames pulled the goalie and you just knew they were going to score. The coach and players almost willed themselves to score.
Hopefully the next coach can motivate this team and play an exciting brand of hockey.

Which coaches are available that could light some short term fires on this team? Lots of people mention you can't fire the coach at this point. I say a change is exactly what this team needs - an experienced coach that is a hard a**.

Just ride out the season. Lots of coaches are going to be available in just over a month.

Fire Gulutzan and Cameron.
Make Gelinas interim head coach.
I bet the players would be relieved at such a change. Just doing that might be enough of a shake up.
Find a better coaching staff in June.

After watching tonight's game specifically, I'm beginning to wonder if the players don't really understand the system. A lot of times tonight, they seem confused, don't know what to do. Like the player receiving the pass didn't know the pass suppose to come.

Yes, I totally agree. They got to do something to fix this, this is as bad as the Brent Sutter era.

Miss the playoffs fire Gulutzan.
You know why the Flames home record sucks so badly because Gulutzan has the decision what lines to put out first.
How many times at home even tonight have we seen this clown put out the 4th line after a GA or a GF. How many times He puts out the 3rd or 4th line in a defensive face off and it is instant mayhem.
How he simply will not deploy a hard fore check is baffling.
It is the only thing I can hope for after this season is that Greg Gilbert 2.0 finally gets fired.

During the post game interview, Cameron mentioned that the team was at their best when they were 5 strong in the defensive zone, 5 strong in the offensive zone, and 5 strong in transition. That made a lot of things clearer for me.

What I hate about Gulutzan even more than some idiotic decisions at times is the stubbornness with which he sticks to his guns. I have zero doubt that a lot of the coaches who have their team entrenched in a playoff spot have done some idiotic things throughout the year... but they adapted their plan in response to results sooner rather than later. That doesn't mean being results-oriented, it means being adaptable.
Gulutzan's process oriented to a fault. He can't spark a team because he doesn't think they need to be sparked. He can't spark a line because he doesn't think they need to be sparked. He can't spark a D-Pair because he doesn't think they need to be sparked. He can't spark a power play because he doesn't think it needs to be sparked. Rinse and repeat, all year long. Well what you've got is no spark and with no spark you have no Flames.

I think this debate has been settled. It's pretty obvious that the flames are unlikely to make the playoffs in 2018. It's pretty obvious that Glen Gully won't be back next year.
Its time for everyone to let it go and move on. See you guys on July 1.

Thanks for the nice words!
Instead of doing a personal attack drive-by, how about explaining where I'm wrong?
First off, I never claimed I like Hartley, Feaster or King but please by all means explain to myself and the 2 other "dummies" who agreed with me where I'm wrong.
Here's where I think I'm right.
-Hartley got more out of less and at least the team showed some exciting play instead of this garbage that GG imposes
-Feaster gets a bum rap but he is responsible for most of the best draft picks on the team, he took over a team full of cap problems and players with no trade/movement clauses and had the fans liking the future. The O'Reilly offer sheet could have been a disaster but 99% of hockey people including the Colorado brass had no clue about the new CBA rule, but had we got O'Reilly the flames would have been much better off with O'Reilly than with Bennett, McDonald and Hickey. Treliving has had no brainer draft picks and other than getting Hamilton for picks in a weak draft has done nothing to help this teams weaknesses, even after admitting this team needs speed and scoring he continues to ignore the needs and still keeps paying our putrid defense about $26 million(probably a league high) while over cooking defensive prospects in the minors. Treliving is good at is contract negotiations but not building an exciting winning team, ask yourself...has he ever stepped out to make a hockey trade to at least try to make the team better? NO, he's like his dad on Dragon Den, unless the deal is a guaranteed win he won't take the chance.
-King over Burke is a no brainer, Burke stuffs $3 million a year in his jeans to not only to do nothing, he does it while living in Toronto and using a cell phone once a week back to Calgary. total waste considering King also gets paid more to do about the same
Again, I don't like any of these 6, but the current 3 is terrible but please keep proving me wrong with personal attacks without proving a damn thing

Hartley's playoffs were not a fluke run. Aaron Ward, who has his name on the Cup, has predicted them to get there. He also said that the reason for his prediction is that the talk in the league is how Flames are hard to play against. Not to mention that winning a round actually proves that playoff berth was no fluke.
No doubt, Hartley's Flames were hard to play against and fun to watch. Gulutzan's Flames are arguably the opposite - fun to play against and hard to watch.

There were fans that defended Greg Gilbert also. I think this group of Gulutzans supporters will find themselves on the same side of history.
