Definitely. They used Hall as a lesson to the rest of the team to limit their toe drags, keep your head up, and eventually to get Larsson. They used Yakupov as a placeholder, thus further limiting the stink from getting on their other young guys rotting in Bakersfield.

The playoffs on a whole are more physically and physical contact is deemed as more acceptable by the officials.
So year, you have people like Kassian and Moron and guys like Lucic. However at the same time, it might be tougher for T-Mac to over use McDavid like he has in the regular season because any team that plays him is going to try to take away his space, and hammer him and test him.
As well unlike regular season hockey. The level of scouting and preparation is for one team alone. So things for example work for McDavid like his whole winding up in the neutral zone, might not be available to him.
The one thing that really excites me is seeing MT and Ferklund and Bennett going whole hog physical, because frankly while Lucic and Maroon and Poulliot might be big and nasty, they're also slow as snot.

I can't actually believe people like Spector and to a lesser extent Francis actually can call themselves reporters. Time and time again Spector and Francis write articles that are fabricated nonsense and show an extreme bias that isn't even attempted to be hidden (more so Spector) Spector is not a reporter but someone who was hired to write glorifying pieces on the Oilers, similar to propaganda and it should be treated as such. It's disgusting but it's exactly why Sportsnet is a ####ing joke. When they say "speculation" just replace that word with bull ####.

One thing I'm wary of with the Oilers not having made the playoffs in a century is that they are going to be all fired up if they do get in. They will definitely have energy for round 1.
On the plus side, they have little defensive depth so any team can beat them by simply finishing checks on their defensemen all series long.

The BOA thread on HF is rage inducing. Lots of horrible posts on both sides of the battle. Really makes me want the Oilers in the playoffs to shut those fans up and rub it in all summer.
Here is how I see the matchup.
Monahan line < McDavid line
3M line > 666 line (18M line)
Bennett line > Deharnais line
Stajan line = Letestu line
Gio-Dougie > Klefbom-Larsson
Brodie-Stone > Sekera-Russell
Bart-Engellend < Nurse-Benning
Elliott < Talbot
Johnson > Brossoit.
Flames have the Oilers in depth up front and top end D. Oil have the Flames beat in terms of top line, 3rd pair and starting goalies.
Much more even match than some are giving it credit for

I read the first page and had to stop. The Oil fans in HF are particularly awful. The best was one guy saying how he see lots of ridiculous comments on both sides then makes the ridiculous statement that Oilers fans were the best in Canada when they were awful. Ya tell that to all the jerseys on the ice bud. Best to stay away from that thread

I loved the guy who said something like "I'm not a fan of either team, but we swept the Flames 4-0"
I really laughed at that.

The only thing that worries me about playing the Oilers is the officials factor. Every time we play them it seems like we are on the wrong end of the calls. Somebody touches McDavid and its a penalty, granted we haven't been at our best in any of the games vs them but we sure as hell don't get the benefit of the doubt on the calls. Other than that they don't scare me one bit.

That's the way it's been for the Flames all year. If anything, they're used to it and it wouldn't be a problem come playoff time...if it happens that way in any case.

When you combine "The Wideman Effect" with "The McDavid Effect" you get catastrophic results.

Curious about this, I broke the Flames and Oilers seasons into the Bob Hartley 7 Game Segments™:
OILERS: - 6-1-0 (12 pts)
- 3-3-1 (7 pts)
- 3-4-0 (6 pts)
- 2-2-3 (7 pts)
- 4-2-1 (9 pts)
- 3-2-2 (8 pts)
- 5-1-1 (11 pts)
- 3-4-0 (6 pts)
- 4-3-0 (8 pts)
- 2-0-0 (4 pts)
4 segments won, 5 segments lost, 1 pending
FLAMES: - 2-4-1 (5 pts)
- 3-4-0 (6 pts)
- 3-4-0 (6 pts)
- 5-1-1 (11 pts)
- 4-3-0 (8 pts)
- 5-2-0 (10 pts)
- 2-4-1 (5 pts)
- 4-3-0 (8 pts)
- 5-1-1 (11 pts)
- 3-0-0 (6 pts)
5 segments won, 4 segments lost, 1 pending

Didn't Darryl Sutter start the 7 game segments and then it caught on with the rest of the NHL, becoming really common?

So who plays a video intro BEFORE warmup? The Oilers that's who. There was maybe 100ish people in the stands to watch it too.

I believe Warrener mentioned Sutter did that with the last 28 games of the 04 season. Stated if they win those 7 game series they would make the playoffs.

My God I'm so glad Gene Principe isn't our TV host. Someone out there needs to be brutally honest with him and tell him he's not a comedian.

It's Connor McFlash now according to the drubs that are the Oiler's broadcast crew.

If the Flames broadcasters were talking about Johnny as much as McDavid, most of us would recognize they need to cool it a bit on the one player.
Oil fans eat it up.

I wonder if they expanded the 50 shades of grey room in the basement of the new rink, or if it matches the one in Rexall.
Love the Oilers or the gimp will have at you.
