We own the 5th right now and the tiebreaker. Assuming the NYI waste the Sabres, if we don't get 2 pts vs Vancouver we slide into 4th.

Well if the Flames want the 4th pick pre lotto, they have to lose to the Canucks and the Isles have to get at least 1 point or win (if the Flames force OT/shootout) against Buffalo.

Hoping if we do land the 5th pick, we somehow maybe swap spots with NYI and give up a little something. What do you think that would take? Maybe our 3rd?
Would be nice to pick a player within that first tier of guys.

What's really interesting is if Edmonton manages to beat the Canucks on Saturday and Florida lose to Colombus (I assume that happens), then Ekblad should be taken at 2 by FLA. If Ekblad isn't there when EDM draft then they probably choose Draisaitl, meaning we have a chance at Bennett.
Scoring him at 4 would be ridiculously awesome. I think a player like him ensures our centre spots are sorted early into a rebuild.
Bennett/Monahan 1st/2nd line centres
Other lines Backlund, Jankowski, Arnold, Bouma, Colby(prefer wing) etc.
I think it would be pretty humorous if we went from being a team with some of the worst centre depth over the last 10 or so years to something so much better, so quickly.
Can dream.

Still better than finishing 5th and getting bumped to 6th!
Good results tonight. I almost can't believe how hard the isles are playing. Last year it was like everybody around the flames was trying not to win, nice change this year.

If the Flames sit 4th I wouldn't be shocked to see Burke swap picks with the Isles to gain another pick and then take Ritchie. Huge kid, sounds like he's got decent skills. Closer we get to the lottery and draft day the more I can see Ritchie being picked if Burke can't get Bennett, Ekblad or Reinhart.

I'd love to see them move up as well. I'm just thinking if they can't move up and sit at 4 or 5, Burke might be inclined to take the big, skilled kid.
Winning the lottery would put those possibilities to rest, though.
