They've got two of them this year, so makes sense. Just not sure what the expansion draft implications are on the Canucks end.

The Sedins and Eriksson all have NMCs, so they have to be protected. Horvat led the team in goals and points this year, so he's a no-brainer for protected slot #4.
Baertschi, Granlund, and Sutter are most likely to round out their 7 protected forwards at this time. If they got Spooner, you have to assume one of those three would be left unprotected and likely be the player they lose to Vegas.
It's possible that they'd send one of Baertschi or Granlund to Boston in the deal. They both definitely outperformed their contracts this season and are signed to cheap deals for next season.

Not a chance that package is landing Kovalchuk, but everything else I somewhat like. Really unsure about Yakupov, though... and to play him on the fourth line? Why not just keep Stajan?

I just don't know about Kovalchuk. He hasn't been in the NHL for a long time. And who knows, he might only be signed for 1 year. I can't see a team gambling on a long term deal because he could just "retire" again, especially considering the pressure to represent team Russia.
I just can't see teams giving up an arm and a leg for him, knowing the risks involved with him.
With regards to Yakupov. Playing with energy has never been his issue. He has no problem moving his feet. It's his IQ thats holding him back. I think he would make a decent energy winger with a good release, and who knows, maybe he finds the right linemates to get him back to his rookie-year form

It would be better if we just gave Stajan away. Yakupov has no redeeming qualities as a hockey player. I do blame St. Louis for not riding him to his full potential this year though, somewhere deep inside is a consistent 7 goal man.

If Radulov can get what he did, you can bet teams will take the chance on Kovalchuk. Why wouldn't NJ just keep him instead of taking that package?

If he doesn't want to play in Jersey then they have to take whatever package the team he wants to play for will give them, because it's better than the nothing they will get by not trading him which would result in Kovy just going back to Russia.
Now, if there is 2 or more teams that Kovy is willing to go to, and 2 or more of those teams want to trade for him, then they would get a better return.

Sure but I'm pretty sure the Flames aren't the 1 team he wants to go too!

I'd like the Flames to trade for Mike Cammalleri at 20% retained. Would be two more years at four million.

Why? That doesn't sound appealing at all.

I'd target really young players from other team, Gauthier from Carolina if possible and guys like that...I don't think he's will be in a rush to Miley e them but I'd be targeting young guys not older ones.

Cammy fits the sniper role that we lack, so I get the appeal. He's also a competitive guy and all around awesome human (and he loves Calgary).
I'd love to see Cammy back. He could be the winger for Bennett 5v5 and play 1st line PP on the off-wing.

I get he's a good shooter but we really don't need any more small forwards on the team.

Really?
List of small forwards on the Flames:
Gaudreau
Versteeg
Lazar
Everyone else is 6'1" or taller. Heck, Lazar is six feet.
