on Transmission, Jake Rudh will be spotlighting albums released in 1979 and with names like The Cure, Joy Division, The B-52's, Gang of Four, Joe Jackson and Gary Newman being part of it, you know it's going to be good. But here's the kicker, those are just some of the debut albums we're going to be covering from '79.

A totally random recollection of my childhood...Sheena Easton. There was a moment between about 80 and 83 that she could have been one of the biggest stars in the world: Hit singles, Commissioned to do a Bond song (For Your Eyes Only is still great), Duets with Kenny Rogers. Not sure why it didn't work out for her more.
Anyway...here's a single with one of the most iconic 80's sounds that you could possibly find. Oddly, it might be the first instance of "ghosting" recorded in pop culture before the idea of ghosting someone was even a thing.

Ok, and as a palette cleanser, I had to go to this track from LCD soundsystem, which is great for the music, but also this fantastic video with performances from David Strathairn and Sissy Spacek, directed by Rian Johnson.

I often go back to this song from Hedwig and the Angry Inch as the best metaphor for love and companionship. John Cameron Mitchell is a weird genius. Still my favorite rock musical ever.

Still one of my major crushes, here, Angel Olsen is vamping her way into my heart.
My wife gets me. She put this on a romantic playlist for our recent anniversary (along with other songs we share in our romantic past from The Dears, Nick Cave, and Mitski). I hope you are all as lucky in love as I am.
