I like that he throws a flop in as part of his tantrum
he's so well practiced at it that when his brain malfunctioned his body just instinctively drops to the ground
when a handicapped person takes the handicap parking from him at the store he probably barks at them and flops on the pavement as he marches by

I wonder how much it drives Bettman nuts that the best player in the league is such a poor face of the game.
Electric offensively on the ice but zero charisma, doesn’t say anything interesting and just complains
And he’s in Edmonton
It wasn’t supposed to be like this

He's probably the dullest person in all the 3 sports.
At least with Lebron he keeps making up lies and the NBA as other stars that do interesting things like Kevin Durant.
I know people who go to games to watch stars even the team they cheer for sucks. Watch the Edmonton road games they don't even fill up.

90% of hockey players have no charisma. And if there are players who show charisma or personality hockey culture shuts them down. That's why the NHL will always stay behind other sports.

8 years in the league, and as the face of the league, and he still acts like a petulant child and is beyond awkward in front of a camera.
Where is the entourage? Where is the support?

Well, Bettman also had Crosby as the supposed face too for better part of a decade..ok, didn't complain, but still limited to awkward Tim Horton ads and has the spicieness of ketchup for league wide personality.

If you read the full article, you’ll see a quote from Hyman saying what Ryan does here, albeit somewhat more cryptically, and you’ll also find a quote from McDavid that wistfully ignores the key issue, that being commitment to team defence.
“I’ve said that a million times.”
Indeed, Derek. Indeed.

The best player in the game is all class, is electric offensively and a great face of the game.
He also plays for Colorado and is a defence man from Calgary.

Though this isn't limited to McDavid and could be said for most players who are in the league and been processed through the hockey system like robots now, everything's been given to him hockey wise since he was 13 or younger. He didn't have a normal teenage maturation where he had to learn social skills or develop or try and find who he was or his personality.
Even worse then he ends up in a place playing pro where the executive take that coddling of talented players to an extreme like it was 1981-1988 again, like it's a badge of honor to boast about just having the best player in the game on the team and in the city as it was Gretzky. No paying dues, no earning respect of vets as a team player. The team has been a disaster off the ice for decades because its executive allowed the players that had skill to run things.
He doesn't have anybody in the organization say no to him. Coaches are told to treat him differently. Players, even if there are vets that for some reason wanted to be part of that culture are also told to lay off him and let him do his own thing and not stifle anything that he wants to do...he has the local and national media, told also to treat him on a different level, fawning over him daily...so how would anyone in that situation and given all those circumstances and history, not feel they they are also owed penalties on the ice when everyone else is going out of their way to make sure things are given to him?
That makeup call is absolutely pathetic though. If every stick tsp was called there would be 30 penalties a game.

Edmonton fans are in hyper whine mode over the non call on McDavids losing an edge. Clearly the league and the Refs are out to prevent the Oils from reaching greatness.
Someday btw when McDavid is long gone from Edmonton, someone is going to leak out what a bad Captain this player is .

Even the commercial with him and Gretzky he is so awkward. A dry piece of toast has more personality.
How is Gretzky even allowed to participate in gambling ads anyways?

Power play went 0/3? I was told that the Power Play was the best thing about the oilers and it was going to affect the outcome of games.
Turns out that both are true!

Of course it is.
When you're on the ice for half the game then clearly you would have to be the problem.
I mean, its not just them. Regardless of what clown you pour into the suit behind the bench, the game-plan hasnt changed.
They play McDavid and Draisaitl exhaustively, they will do whatever it takes to get powerplays and then they pray like hell that the rest of the clowns dont do anything stupid while the wonderboys are sucking wind on the bench for a few seconds a night.

Its reality man.
The calls will be harder to get in the playoffs, so the powerplay might be less of a factor then you think, and usually the teams in the playoffs, pretty much the majority have elite penalty killing.
Ok what else.
What does Holland have to be confident about? He's literally driven your team into cap hell, lost most trades, and has, what's that word I'm looking for . . . oh right, leverage, he has none. He doesn't have a lot of exciting assets that he's going to swing to get the defensive help that he needs unless your willing to trade a big chunk of your future. But oh and
Ding Dong
Who's there
Oh you're from amazon, and your dropping off that package of reality.
Holland is going to massively overpay for help. Why, because skype all set up and ready to go.
What else, a young goalie that's playing well. You'd better hope that he can play 55 games at a high level for a team with an atrocious blueline, and a rita repulsive level bottom 6, and two stars that don't give a shyte about the teams side of the center ice line.
What else? Good coach, not really, meet the new coach, he's the same as the old coach. He can't get the team to adopt a defensive system. He can't convince his top two players to play two way hockey. I could coach the Oilers man, and have the same record that this turd does. Lets see Ok here goes
"Conna - Pissy get out there."
I am a hockey coaching god!!!
And the Conna and Leon factor, its not enough. In the NHL in the 2020's you can't outscore that bad of a blueline.
Oh well, in a few weeks with the Oilers dropping like a stone. Nice effort against the Nucks tonight man by the way. You'll stop posting and putting up and I quote in a squeeky voice.
"If everything goes absolutely perfect or above expectations, the Oilers could make the finals"
Yeah and if I could afford a million dollars worth of plastic surgery, a personal fitness training. Luck on the Stock Market, a complete charm transplant and a Lamborghini, Scarlett Johanson could be my wife.
Accept it, if anything you should be proud.
You can handle this whole Oilers thing one way or another.
When your kid (Oilers) comes home with a subpar report card, you can yell at him about how you expected better from him, and send him to his room without dinner.
Or the right thing
You can glower at the kid while your wife whispers in your ear "Now Frank what do you expect, he does come from your genetic pool and you're kind of stupid for believing in him. And then you smile at your kid (Oilers) and say, that's ok at least you didn't tie your shoes together today, and that's progress.
But back to the Oilers.
Oh wait my phone is ringing let me get that
Hello
Its reality calling.
The Oilers have seriously over achieved this year thanks to the powerplay. You should be grateful that they're still in the playoff race.
But after Christmas when the contenders ramp their games up. The Oilers will fall over a cliff, and then you can start reading about the next hot prospect that the Oilers will draft because he has a youtube video of him bouncing a puck on his nose and orking like a Seal, and that's the type of player that gets the Oilers scouting department and the owners kid all rigid.

Get your yucks in now. After that game against the Canucks, we deserve them. But I’m not too sure I remember a team that won the cup in December. There is still much hockey to be played. Congrats to your flames for their win against the ducks.

Oilers with the identical record to last year after 35 games: 18-15-2
They are what they are. And what they are is a bubble team.

If only Daly didn’t drop all the lottery cards in the hallway at the draft lottery show. The staff behind the camera were losing their minds but it was too late to correct. Can’t believe he didn’t double check if he stacked them back up correctly and then went out on air and announced the Oilers as the winner. Biggest gaffe in league history.

Your defeatist hyperbole, is fair cover for the bleak. December, and specifically Christmas is important, as 75% of those in a playoff position come this holiday, find themselves qualifying for the spring dance.
No, I'm not promising my team makes it, but the data doesn't lie.

And last year Mike Smith went on able absolute tear and won 8 games in April pretty much by himself. I guess that could happen again...

Not unless Smitty is doing a Rocky-esque training montage as we speak.
