Is the high water level in the reservoir related to the RR construction at all? Seems oddly high this time of year? Or maybe it's normal that they top it up before the winter?
I think it's normally this high at this point. They drop it in the spring for flood control and prevent slope erosion, then maintain full supply volume during summer and then in fall for fish spawning, then it starts dropping over winter from demand. Don't forget it was abnormally low prior to this because of the new gate installations.

You can find out more info about the development in the link below. They are the same developer that did the Deerfoot City update. I met with them a few years ago and they wanted to start this a while back, but Valley Ridge and Crestmont blocked the development from starting until the ring road could build out another access point, since the access to the development was originally planned to be through the Valley Ridge/Crestmont access, which the community was worried would create traffic problems since there is only one access point to both communities.
It doesn't look like they've released any tenants, but I remember at the time Loblaws City Market was going to be the grocery store in the development.
Probably won't be a Loblaws/Superstore there anymore, since I believe they're going to be where the former Sunnyside Garden Centre was./
Correct about Loblaw, so they are not likely to lead this. Shape has a development permit for the mixed-use development west of the interchange, but they have had their focus shifted to Vancouver mostly and are not keen on developing in Calgary anymore, I hear. BVX Campground lands are owned by Homes by Avi, so mid-density housing development, likely. My guess, nothing will get developed in that cluster for at least 4-5 years or until after the entire length of the Ring Road is open to the public at the earliest.

I live in Valley Ridge, and it's pretty amazing watching the progress they are making on the Ring Road and the new bridge across the Bow. Should be a pretty good boost to property values in Valley Ridge and Crestmont in a few years when it opens, combined with the new mall complex they will begin construction on around the new climbing center when the ring road is complete. Biggest knock to the area is lack of amenities.
I was a little surprised to see them paving the road underneath the underpass by COP this past week. It's only been about 2 years since they opened that underpass, and it already needed to be re-paved?
I don't drive down Stoney towards 16th Ave west very often but I did yesterday and I had a chance to get a nice long look at the new ring road south of 16th going up the hill. It is going to be real nice having that open but it looks quite steep. I'm wondering if anyone knows what the grade is planned to be going up the hill? How does it compare to Sarcee going up the hill from 16th?

It's pretty crazy how much development underway and planned for the NW Bow River corridor: Trinity Hills, Greenwich, University District, Sunnyside redevelopment, Stadium Shopping Center, and the Montgomery/Bowness mainstreets projects. Also, that massive chunk of land under Sarcee trail on the South West side of the river was sold recently which has massive potential.

IIRC, the SB Stoney merge lane from EB TCH is only one lane (this may have changed). With all the semis that are going to be taking that route, I suspect there is going to be some backup happening with the semis struggling to get going up that hill.

Actually, this is due to an upgrade of the Glenmore Dam.
The upgrade is mostly complete, and you can expect the level of the reservoir to be this high whenever possible, for drinking water supply.
In the spring, the level will be dropped to prepare for floods, but otherwise (Summer-Early Spring), the reservoir will be as high as the river will allow (run-off + snow melt), up to 2.5m above previous crest of the dam (1m higher than now).

1:10 should give a visual sense. Note the steep escarpments on either side.
Of course I'm sure the reality will differ a bit from that.
Seems like they've already cut out quite a bit - is it true that they've used those materials to construct the SWRR?

It's only one lane, but it's an added lane going up the hill and the ramp has very smooth curves which won't need you to slow down too much. I don't think it'll be much of an issue.

Speaking of the Stoney/TCH part of the ring road, does anyone know why there is major earthworks and disruption all the way west to Old Banff Coach road and TCH? The video above doesn't suggest they're doing an upgrade of that intersection (OBC/TCH) as part of this, and while some of it looks like a laydown area for vehicles there's more going on than can be accounted for by that alone.
Thanks in advance. Easier to be patient through the TCH jams in that area when it's clear what the reason is. The last time I drove it eastbound traffic was moderate and flowing at about 100kph, and as I was cresting the hill here ( https://goo.gl/maps/UnWwyLn4dYpvDiMF6 ) I was lucky not to get rear-ended as the traffic just over the hill was at a standstill due to the jams and all the cars entering the jam had to brake hard.
I don't understand the need to keep developing new neighbourhoods and build countless multi-dwelling projects in Calgary. Right now with the low oil prices combined with high unemployment rate and negative economic growth - who the F will buy these units? Actually these units will be bought up by "investors," but who the F will rent and live in these units?
Speaking of the NW COP-area development, there is another massive development up the hill by West Springs. https://liveatgateway.com/?gclid=Cjw...xoCvHUQAvD_BwE
Again, the more condo units being built, the further the property values in surrounding areas will be dragged down...

Part of the project involves widening the TCH to six lanes (3 each direction) as far as Old Banff Coach Road. And it seems it's a major rebuild at the same time rather than just adding one lane each direction. IIRC the road will be temporarily shifted south while the rebuild occurs before shifting back to the original alignment which is why there seems to be a lot of earthwork along the south side of the highway.

TCH is being rebuilt to 4 lanes each way from Stoney Trail to Old Banff Coach Road. A temporary detour road that opens soon is being built south of the final freeway.

Agreed. I totally get density, but all the wood framed condos popping up in far flung neighborhoods that don't even have transit service? Seems to go against all of the citys plans to become a bustling, european city
6th street SW closed to traffic now to Shawnessay, that overpass must be going to open soon to allow traffic to that area from RR and Silverado. Looks like James Mckevitt wont be far behind
