With the new "rules" around interviews, it's going to delay being able to hire guys from the Lions or Ravens type of thing. You're pretty much limited to a 3 hour virtual interview this week and in person after January 20th and it excludes staff on teams who make the Conference Championship games.
So if you want to raid the staff of the top teams...it's going to be later into the offseason than usual.

She fires Vrabel because he wasn't on the same page as Carthon and a season later fires Carthon and keeps Callahan who the incoming GM will likely fire next season if they don't exceed expectations. She's not Woody bad but Amy Adams is working her way up the ranks of incompetent owners.

I think we need to accept that there are like max eight good owners in the NFL. Most owners are mediocre or worse.

Cowboys can give permission for McCarthy to interview but they still hold exclusive negotiating rights until Jan. 14th so they still have a week to hammer out a deal depending on Jerry's mood in the coming days.

If they want to keep him, I will assume they wouldn't be giving him the opportunity to interview with another team.
A bit baffling that a bum like him would be in demand. But if you look around the league not a lot of great coaches.

Thats the thing about McCarthy, he's not a bum. He's a good, but not great, coach, and for a lot of teams he would meaningful raise their floor, while keeping the ceiling below Super Bowl level. To a dumpster fire like the Jets a coach who might get you three winning seasons in a row is a titanic upgrade, even if his history shows he probably won't take you all the way.

He's a known quantity. Any team hiring him knows his ceiling may not be Super Bowl but he's good enough to take a team to the playoffs. Hiring first time head coaches is always a coin flip regardless of how good of a coordinator they are.

Indeed, hard to believe they're building a new stadium for that dumpster fire of an organization, but I'm a glutton for punishment and will keep cheering for them. They'll hire Deion Sanders and draft his kid and it will be even more embarrassing for all involved.

Raiders fire Antonio Pierce. Not shocking, but not sure why it took longer to announce than usual. I guess you never know what's going on behind the scenes with the Raiders organization.

Mark Davis probably wanting to have his firing in the spotlight rather than overshadowed by the black Monday firings? Who knows but this was kind of expected. I do think AP has some good leadership qualities as the players loved him and played hard for him but not an X & O's guy and extremely dependant on his coordinators. He may have a future as an assistant coach or something but he wasn't enough of a tactician to be an NFL head coach.
Now that's out of the way Raiders fans have to sit back and see if Mark Davis can actually hire a good coach. When your best swing at head coach has been Jack Del Rio you have a lot of improvement to make.

Unless something's changed I suspect the Raiders are too cash poor to afford coach Prime's buyout and subsequent contract. IIRC Pierce was the driving force behind the Shedeur to LV talk so who knows now.

I think this may have been a possibility had the Raiders not won 2/3 games down the stretch. I don't think Sanders will fall to the Raiders although he could pull an Eli Manning as it's no secret the Raiders are his preferred destination.

Browns are already back to rebuild mode. I think there's a good chance they move that #2 pick to the Giants or Raiders and start the full tank. I expect Garrett and Ward are probably gone this offseason, too.
That weird restructure they did with Watson means they can't really get out of his contract until the 2027 offseason. Might as well try grab a project guy like Ewers or Milroe in the second or third round this year and then tank hard for 2026 and 2027 for a shot at someone like Arch Manning.

They blocked the Bears request which tells me Jerry is going to make a take it or leave it offer as I don't think he would do this out of spite. This is what happens when you have an 82 year old man running a team as it's similar to how things unravelled for Al Davis. They just aren't as sharp and they start to lose focus of the ultimate goal. He's more focused on optics than results. Any team focussed on winning a Super Bowl gets the deal done and moves on to the next task of improving the team. Jones wants to show everyone that he's in control and that McCarthy will coach the Cowboys on his terms. It's just so silly to drag it on like this but as every says, it's Jerry being Jerry.

He reached out to Bill and he'd rather stay in College football. You know an organization is in rough shape when a coach rather stay in the College ranks than an NFL team.

Sounds like McCarthy will be returning to the Cowboys next year. Jerry declined the Bears' request to interview. Lol at everyone involved.
