We went there in July when my kids were little.

One night during dinner it rained and everyone that was a local, including serving and kitchen staff went out to see it.

First rain in something like 200+ days

I have a developed garage and I store some things in the attic. Went up there yesterday and nearly fell off the ladder it was so hot. So I came back with a thermometer, and it read 125F.

Got me thinking of Phoenix where its been like than non stop for months. Must be awful.

I thought it might be too hot yesterday going into last night.

So I turned the AC down another degree.

Wife likes it cold in her den on the main floor, so I’m freezing my balls off in the basement. Gonna have to open the windows or start the furnace.

Should probably scoop that up first or you’ll make a mess of your mower

I've loved this heatwave, but all the smoke I can see off my balcony to the west tells me it's time for all this rain on deck the next few days.

The question is, will the rain clear the air, or will it smell like wet cigarettes every time I go outside

Doesn’t look like any rain headed for the 1/3 of BC that is burning to the ground, so wet cigarettes it is!

My dad grew up in Calgary and he says he never remembers smoke like this. Maybe even Mt St Helens went but that's it. Now it's every summer and all season long.

The evacuations every year is concerning as well. This isn't sustainable. Is the cause of all this chaos simply climate change? It seems like a switch was triggered and all of a sudden our summers are full of rampant forest fire and drought.

I guess I'm naive thinking the impact of climate change would be more subtle and gradual than this.

How can we live like this?

I'm sure there will be lots of living to go. It's going to be progressively more uncomfortable and difficult but people aren't just going to pack it in.

And yes, this is how climate change works.
It's still 31 at 9pm and the wind is ripping outside.
Go bags are packed.
Nevertheless have an important concrete pour at Adams Lake tomorrow and if the road is open we will do it.
Buckle up.

Yup, it's been a bad one. Unfortunately, all the experts say we can expect more of the same, and likely even worse in the future.

By 2040 we might look back on this summer as a relatively mild one.
