The Decemberists are that band that only your annoying hipster friend knows about. And yet, they're still absolutely worth getting into, so don't let your hipster friend stop you.

Saw them in 2009 at the Calgary folk music festival. Guess I'm a 63 year old hipster.

Also, been listening to a lot of Smiths lately. A song I've always enjoyed, but recently found new appreciation for:
Plus, Morrissey is always ####ing cool and seems to get it before most people do.
I'm surprised to see this post on a leftist groupthink site like this, but yeah, he's bang on here.
His Bonfire of Teenagers (title refers to the Manchester bombing at Ariana Grande concert) album was supposed to feautre Miley Cyrus and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, but it has effectively been cancelled due to Morrissey's political beliefs.
I can't imagine anyone doing this on a Mars Volta track. Inertiatic is one of my favorite songs from them and has so many different sections of rhythm that require new drum patterns. This classic session drummer is game for it though.

I think that sometimes as Canadians, we become complacent to the incredible music in our country.
To that end, I suggest that this song from Blue Rodeo is one of the best songs of the 20th century, no sarcasm at all.
It is a unique mixture of jazz, country, blues, folk, prog rock and even some classical elements. It evokes feelings of timelessness, which is hard to do.
The guitar solo is an interesting one to me, as it tells a story of the relationship in the lyrics: Starting off with a slow build of energy into passion, chaos, discord, and eventually back into gentle solace. It's a beautiful musical metaphor of the story they are trying to tell.
Listen closely, and pick out all the different parts that the instruments provide. It's truly beautiful.
the lyric: "she loved the lines around his mouth" absolutely haunts me.

I’ve been on a Bruce Cockburn kick lately because of Propagandhi using a lyric in their new song. He is a powerful songwriter and a killer guitar player.
