Just shows really how poorly built of a team the Oilers actually are. They're a one line point and nothing else really.
In my opinion the best trade or signing they've made in the Draisaitl/McDavid era was getting Mattias Ekholm. A proper D man. And that's it, that's the list. They've done piss poor everywhere else in the team building department. Edot: ahhh, forgot about the Hyman-ator.
1 actual d man and some cast offs. They lucked out with Bouchard. And Broberg looks to be good as well. I hate that Broberg is an Oiler.

i was chatting (chirping?) with my neighbours this morning - they are awesome people and we're pretty good friends with them. they moved to kelowna from calgary a few years ago, but they are both originally from edmonton. they just got back into town and while they are gone i always mow their lawn. i told them i was going to cut the panthers logo into their lawn... they did think that was funny, but they also kind of wondered if i'd actually do it.... and i totally would becuz it would be hilarious!
anyways, back to this morning....i mentioned how amazing it would be to see chucky hoist the cup in edmonton tomorrow night!! the husband kind of chuckled and said "that's gross". his wife belts out, "oh i think i'm going to puke!"
ha! ha! so much fun!!

McDavid is very much the best player on the planet. He does all of the heavy lifting for that team, and this is not a sport where one player can carry a team to a championship. I will agree however that he's an unlikeable and boring guy. Leon Draisaitl is the biggest fraud in the league however and a total scumbag. Anyone who calls him a top 10 player in the world is sorely mistaken. 4 points in 9 games in the 3rd and 4th rounds. Diving on the slightest of contact. Standing around waiting for McDavid to create time and space. This is a guy who simply can't carry his own line at this time of year. He has routinely had his head caved in when away from McDavid over his entire career during the playoffs. I hope he signs long term at 13M+.

even some of the things you are giving them credit for, Broberg for example was an 8th OV pick (nevermind I believe that was in year 13 of the rebuild, I digress) and he's 30th in games played for his draft class

Don't forget his fetish for going after testicles.

The best thing Edmonton could have done (could still) is actually trade Pissy for a big package of the depth Edmonton doesn't have.
With a more fully rounded out team, a good coach and not playing McDavid 30 min a night, they'd become a team that's more suited for the playoffs.
But they're too stupid to adapt and maintain a belief that being a PP only team will get it done.

I doubt McDavid goes his whole career without a cup. Would be funny if he did but extremely unlikely. I wish nothing but the worst on #29.
Dude's 27 and stuck for 2 more years in dumpsville. Despite being "post apex," he'll get a $15M, 7-8 year contract next time. The team that gives him that isn't going to be one that has a cup-winning roster strategy. I'm confident that he'll pass Marcel Dionne for most points by a non-cup winner. Or maybe slide into #2 ahead of Jumbo Joe.
McDavid is just the fast version of Alex Tanguay. Difference was Tanguay actually scored goals in a game to win a cup.
There is no way that McDavid is remotely close to Lemieux. Lemieux and Gretzky are so far above everyone else. I’d easily take Yzerman, Sakic, and Crosby before McDavid.
I think the closest comparison to McDavid would be Pavel Bure. Bure did much better in the SCF though.

If he picked the right team he will win. Edmonton has nothing for him anymore. Their core is over 30, no cap, can't attract free agents and has nothing coming in prospects and picks. They also likely waste more picks to give it 1 last try next year.
"My favourite line from rookies is 'I just gotta play my game.' ...You don't have a game, you don't have one... but that guy over there's got a game. Why don't you just play like him?"
I would wish that all people who say that you need to let young guys play their game would watch this clip. Use your talent BUT play the right way to win.
I wouldn't be surprised if McDavid ends up in Toronto tbh
I would bet heavily against that. He's never seemed like a guy who's comfortable with the media, and he's in the most media friendly market in the country. Do you honestly think he'd willingly subject himself to the opposite end of the spectrum in Toronto?
My prediction is that he goes to Chicago or Detroit, classic teams on the upswing now after years in the basement, he'd probably turn either one into a cup contender within a few seasons

I hope the Flames sign McDavid to 15 x 8 in two years time and McDavid wins 8 Cups centering Jonathan Huberdeau With Zary and Backlund down the middle behind him doing what Draisaitl and Nuge cannot

First of all, anyone that's comparing McDoofus to Lemieux or Gretzky, or Orr, or Howe, or Crosby is on crack.
McDavid is a great offensive player, but miserable without the puck, and he's not a guy like Yzerman, or Crosby who gives a crap out thier own end and winning.
McDavid can play at high speed, and he can be amazing at it, but lets be honest, what's going to happen when he turns 29 or 30, and those legs get a little slower. I'd argue that he will have a big decline in his last contract year.
Lemieux came back from major back issues to lead his team to the cup, the guy came back from Cancer, and he played in an era where teams literally beat the sh%%T out of him. McDavid would cry in that era.
This Oilers team is already making up their excuses for their last presser of the year. Wah, the refs screwed us, wah, Bob's an actual NHL goalie, wah, we outplayed them.
In the Avengers, Captain America accused Iron man of not being able to lay it on the line and lay down on barbed wire so his friends could get across, and Iron Man said he'd cut the wire.
Well for McDavid he's not smart enough to cut the wire, and he doesn't want to compete hard enough when things are hard to lay on the wire. He's sit there and whine to everyone that hears that the wire is unfair.
As for Draisaitl, he'd take one look at the wire with his pissy resting face and say screw this, there's no barbed wire in New York.
Oh and the Oiler fans laughable comparison to the 1983 Oilers that got thumped by the Islanders and came back the next year to win the cup. There's no comparable, this Oilers team is nowhere near as complete as that team. A frankly this Oilers team doesn't have the leadership of Gretzky, and Messier, this Oilers team does not have a Coffey, or Anderson or Kurri. Oh and in this day and age of its harder to get to the finals two years in a row unless your team is special, and yes the Oilers are special in a wearing a helmet while out in public, but they are not a special rising club.
