Fans in Calgary are pretty smart though -- they understand what a rebuild is, why it should be done, and it won't last forever.
Basically, I don't think attendance would drop that much, especially with the money saved on salaries (just past the cap floor).
I just assumed it was $$$ related as to why a proper rebuild (not forced like when Iggy was traded) can't be viable option.

To be honest, I've spent enough time on this thread/forum to know that more than half the people here don't know the difference between a rebuild or a retool.

Weird how twitter randoms are going crazy about kadri to calgary. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me unless backlund is immediately traded but even then cap cost would be pretty limiting as am thinking he would be 2.5-4 mil a season more than backlund.
I'd rather see them sign mangiapane long term and flip kylington and a piece for a young right shot forward to play with lindholm and huberdeau, maybe someone struggling to find a deal with his tean who will sign for 3-5 years and explode on that line.
Someone I think fits the bill perfectly is Necas in Carolina but the canes will probably be pretty wary of dealing him to cgy after lindholm and it sounds like they are in win now mode so probably not a great trade fit.

This tweet is from a credentialed reporter. Writer for London Knights and Toronto Maple Leafs.
But not sure what he means- Kadri is going to COL if he doesn’t go to CGY? OR Kadri is going to COL but if he doesn’t then CGY.

The second one. If COL can't make it work he goes to CGY.
7 is the most I drop on Kadri. Everybody knows there's about 3 really good years in that contract.

Sounds to me that Kadri's agent is using Calgary as a pawn to extract a few more dollars from the Avalanche. Maybe if a Lucic trade was made to free up some salary I could believe this but I would have to think extending Huberdeau and likely Weegar are likely higher priority than signing Kadri. It's been two weeks now and Kadri hasn't signed anywhere which to me reeks of a guy waiting for the Avs to make a move or two to fit in his salary.

What move could Colorado possibly make that would allow them to sign Kadri without crippling them long-term? They have to be concerned about next off-season now, when MacKinnon, Newhook, and Byram all need new contracts. Sure, they have Compher, Cogliano, Helm, and Johnson coming off the books, but that frees up only $12M. MacKinnon is going to eat up $5-6M of that, which leaves $6-7M to resign your RFAs and replace the bodies you just lost. Even at league minimum that is $3M deducted from the $6-7M available. A deal with Kadri doesn't appear to be possible with Colorado unless they move out a core piece. Kadri isn't a player you do that for.

I think he’s giving Avs some time to see if they can make a trade to fit him in. All the rumours I’ve read is kadri was looking for $8 million on long term. No teams were offering the money or term he was looking for. Won’t be surprised if he signs with Avs at $7 million per for 3 years if they can make a trade.

I hope Calgary doesn't bring Kadri in for 7 mil. He's 31 and an average 45-50 point player the last 10 seasons. We need to settle down.

Who averages the last 10 seasons of any player?
I agree he’s not worth 7 mil but he has scored at a 55+ point pace 4/6 seasons and his advanced stats are really impressive.
He’d be overpaid for sure, but you’d be overpaying a good player.
And with the pipeline this team has… why not go for it?

I think they need a 1RW more, but this rumor just won't go away. People seem to be willing it into existence lol

I think Kadri could make sense. Are these the lines with Kadri?
Huberdeau - Lindholm - Toffoli
Mangiapane - Kadri - Coleman
Pelletier - Backlund - Dube
Lucic - Monahan - Lewis
- Rooney -

I doubt Pelletier will be on the checking line.
And it will be hard to fit Mangiapane and Kadri in the lineup without Lucic and/or Monny leaving.

I actually think the Flames would be far better off if they brought in a top 2 centre. That’s our bigger gap and the more important position.
That said some of the fears around Kadri I agree with. So term and dollars is key if this happened, but no doubt he makes us much better to start this season. And he’s got the grit factor.

I would swap Dube and Coleman, but yes. Something like this. One of or both of Lucic/Monahan would have to go though to sign him.

If we are signing Kadri one of Lucic or Monahan need to move out to make room; also need to consider that cap space gained from Lucic and Monahan turning UFA next year needs to be applied to the new contracts for Huberdeau and Weegar. Still room to make a splash though and the more I think about it the more a 1 year Phil Kessel deal makes sense to me.
