Trump now has ordered DHS to stop investigation into any Russian interference in elections or Trumps connections to Russia because it makes him look bad. DOJ is acting on as Trump's defense in for the rape case against him... We're one step removed from a fascist state.
And this today.

Trying to explain how debt with a fiat currency works for a sovereign nation that controls its food supply, its energy and its currency...the added wrinkle that its the reserve currency makes it more difficult. In general people equate it to their mortgage/bank relationship. You've done a good job.
Unless you're a "smaller government" person, most of us should love fiscal deficits, because it means lower taxes and less burden on households/corps.

Wouldn’t it be something if Bob Woodward was central to two resignations?
Dare to dream.

I have a pile of them in the library, but haven't had the time to get to the bank of late and cash them. Damn COVID-19 and all.

Many polls released today:
https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com...ident-general/
If I try to spin a narrative out of this much data I am going to embarrass myself. With that disclaimer this seems to have in general been a very good day for Biden with polls continuing to show him leading by high single digits nationally (and double digits in a few cases) and also leading in the key swing states he will need to win (though more narrowly in the battleground states than nationally).
Marquette University’s Wisconsin poll came out and had Biden up by 4 among likely voters and 7 among registered voters. That was one of 3 Wisconsin polls—the other two also show Biden leading by single digits. Marquette’s last poll had Biden +5 so this isn’t meaningfully different in my view.
Biden also got a good result from Marist in Pennsylvania. And Morning Consult released polls of a number of battleground states, with Biden leading (albeit narrowly in some cases) in all of them except for Ohio, Georgia, and Texas. Texas was tied.
Ohio is likely a lost cause for Democrats now but the fact that Georgia and Texas seem to be competitive must be keeping some people awake on the Trump campaign team. Demographics aside I cannot imagine a scenario where Trump wins Georgia by only a point or two and still wins the election. If Georgia is close, conventional wisdom suggests it will be a bad night for Trump.
One other observation: as pollsters move to the likely voter models this doesn’t seem to be helping Trump much. In some polls Biden’s lead is larger among likely voters.

Yeah it’s really backfired on us progressives to have manufactured the COVID-19 crisis. I mean it’s pretty funny that we convinced everyone to wear masks, but shutting down the whole economy has made it way harder to get my fair trade arabica beans.
Plus, those 8 Chan nerds seem to be on to us.

Trump could be the first US President to Deepthroat himself.
... Uhh, that doesn't sound right.

People are being hard on Woodward on Twitter - saying he could have saved lives by reporting this months ago. Fair?

About the same as blaming USA gun deaths on the second amendment. Fair?

People are idiots. They so easily fall for a distraction and don't focus on what matters. Attacking Woodward takes the eye off Trump and what he did. It's classic "shoot the messenger" mentality. Trump lied and people died. That is all the focus should be on.

I don't really see the corrolary.
Woodward can do what he likes with the info, but I agree that releasing it in, say, April would have probably steered federal policy more favorably than September. Or at least made the opposition more aggressively hound the feds.

I believe it's fair. Trump cultists believe every word out of Trump's mouth. Possibly releasing that tape could have swayed some to believe the virus was NOT a hoax, and that a mask would help because it is airborne. Trump could have saved lives, but he simply does not care, he is an empty shell of a human being. The number of Americans that have died means absolutely nothing to him, he does not have the ability to feel anything that does not directly touch him.
They already had stats on the news last night on the number of deaths that could have been prevented if he had done something/anything, back when he first knew how deadly this virus was. Something like 80,000 deaths may have been prevented.

I think Woodward timed this for maximum impact in the election to help bring down trump.

It’s bizarre that he would even talk to Woodward - 18 times! Trump thought he could persuade Bob.

There is a human cost to this decision however, and it's not even guaranteed to bring him down.

Just like I'm not sure what Biden could really do to cost himself votes, I'm also not really sure what could come out about Trump that would change much. This has really been a boring election, just feels like we're running out the clock until we get to the actual result.
