Bingos point is they could have just only traded Huberdeau and had both. Instead they’re just a worse team and they’re not getting any younger or better. It’s a classic case of a team shortening their window of contention by lacking patience. They traded a bunch of 1s for rentals and now they’re losing their own rentals and future value for one player.

A little plug for CalgaryBoy's translation but my thoughts on the captaincy and Tkachuk's departure.

How do you or Bingo know this? Huberdeau had one year on his deal and the Flames had no certainty he would sign long term with the Flames.

His point was that instead of giving Weegar they give some future asset. Maybe another draft pick or another good prospect from their system. Given what was leaked of the other offers Trev rejected that would have been something Calgary likely would have taken. It’s not like Calgary had a bunch of options. I think there are two issues for this trade from Floridas side. One they misread the market and offered too much. Thankfully for us that happened.

The other is that for a team with very limited future top picks they sold too much from their current roster. They could have still traded for Tkachuk without gutting their roster so much. They know with losing all those picks their future hopes suck. So why not add someone who doesn’t help them in the next 1-2 years?

If so, more embarrassing. I'm assuming an athlete the size of Tkachuk can reach the plate with a pitch with a little practice.

Also, he grew up in St Louis, the epi-center of baseball. He is probably taking massive heat from his friends. Whitey Herzog probably choked on his beer watching that.
