I see posts like this all the time and I don't get it. Do people really think other posters are following them around? CP isn't very big, I think it's just more likely that you happen to read the same threads.

This obviously, but I’d hate to miss the chance to point out that Azure is actually the only poster who, while I took a couple months off of posting earlier this year and stuck to just reading, actually kept bringing me up and mocking me in threads I hadn’t posted in for weeks lol.
He’s a bit of a head case.

There are a ton of things you can't just walk down to the store and buy because they are dangerous to society. The government - with our support or non-support - decides what that line is - and if they go too far - we can vote them out. The decision has been made that banning alcohol went too far so it was removed.
|
Again, if you want to make a list of things that have no societal benefits, and ban them.....such as guns (apparently), then I will extend that list to alcohol.
Because at the end of the day, alcohol has killed more people, ruined more families and caused more societal harm than non-restricted firearms EVER will.

Dude, you can literally go into every thread I participate in and find PepsiFree waiting till someone replies to one of my posts and he'll make some kind of witty, stupid & smug comment.
Of course, I long ago quit reading what he had to say, so these days every reply to my posts is then followed with a reply from him that I have on ignore.
Its hilarious.

I believe my assessment of the societal benefits of guns is lower than yours, and I think you are willfully glazing over the societal benefits of alcohol with the argument you are making.
I consider countering a prohibition black market is part of the benefit of legalization / regulation, and I believe that the prohibition effect for alcohol exerts a greater burden on society than the prohibition effect for guns when you compare 20s error USA to modern London or Australia you can clearly see the negative effects from alcohol restrictions and the positive effects from gun restrictions, maybe there's a breaking point where those effects change, but for now history tells me gun restrictions have worked well and recreational drug restrictions have not.
|
Are there any societal benefits to alcohol? I can’t really think of any. There’s personal benefits I guess, if you’re responsible, it can make a night more fun, but that’s not really societal. There’s a tonne of societal harm though. The temperance movement in the early 1900’s basically had it right, alcohol causes all kinds of behavioural and social issues, fighting, addiction, spousal abuse, and that’s not even including drunk driving or the wave of health problems, most notably obesity and liver issues, caused by alcohol. The prohibition movement was basically given up upon because people still wanted alcohol and could get it and it was a massive quixotic adventure that ended in complete failure. Doesn’t mean alcohol is good though, and I say that as someone that definitely likes to drink.
Guns, on the other hand, are a tool with a lot of utility, especially for rural people. They’re a method of feeding your family, in addition to protecting your livestock from varmints as well as protecting your family because any police response is basically non existent. There’s no real reason for urban people to own one which is why I don’t but this abject failure to understand the perfectly rational and reasonable reasons someone who doesn’t live like urbanites would want and NEED a gun continue to baffle me. Not you specifically I think but just in general, the statement “there’s no need for people to own guns” is asinine.

I imagine the argument is mass murder ( guns) vs self inflicted medical issues ( alcohol/substance abuse)
Which is more immediate?

I am very much anti-gun, but there are legitimate uses for them and the idea that there should be bans on any model of single-shot long gun is asinine. These are not useful for criminal activity, focus on the guns that are.

You literally replied to a post with a paragraph stating that the prevention of prohibition fueled black markets is a social benefit of legalizing / regulating drugs (including alcohol).
I also think there are some mental health / social benefits to recreational substance use when done properly. talking about the most negative effects for 10% of the population is excludes the 60% of the population that realizes these benefits without experiencing the problems you are talking about.
It's a big old "yeah but!" from gun advocates, who do not want to talk about places where gun restrictions have been successful.

There's been plenty of good discussion on guns in the gun thread, don't bother listening to the people that just want to deflect

I don’t know if it’s a weird gaslighting attempt or he’s genuinely that unhinged, but it’s pretty entertaining.
“Long ago” must mean like two weeks ago for that ignore list, since he posted this two days after I made a post that had didn’t mention him or have anything to do with him:

And this post which was the same (didn’t come after a mention of him, convo didn’t involve him), but wasn’t even quoted, so he obviously “magically” saw it.

I have been one of them that has experienced it, along with Azure. It started immediately after disagreeing with Pepsi on a subject he was passionate about.
I think it was one of Cliff Fletcher's posts that made me aware of this behavior, and it was shortly after that it began happening to me.
The thing that keeps him going is a group of posters cheering him on.
I actually feel sorry for him, as I think the way he badgers some posters quite likely happened to him in his youth. Just a guess.

No idea what you guys are seeing but I've had plenty of disagreements with Pepsi over the years, pretty sure I even cussed him out one time, and he's never 'followed me around.' We just happen to be posting in the same threads
You just don't like his posting style, and that's fine, but trying to make it seem like it's about you is just odd

No offence, but if you paid me $1000 I still could not recall even one post you’ve had or differentiate you from doctorfever.
I’m absolutely fine if people don’t like the way I post, but between Azure making up lies anbout obsession while he name drops me randomly every week and you chatting to other posters about me? I dunno, seems like you guys need to sort this issue out on your end. I promise I’ve never talked to other posters about you lol.
