It’s available in several stores if you can cancel your order:

A Redditor found potential prices for Canada Computers for the third-party 5090 and 5080. The 5090 ranges from $2899 for the Gigabyte Windforce to $3989-$4059 for air-cooled Asus Astrals (and $4499 for the water-cooled model).

It's too bad P.T. Barnum isn't alive to see this.

Which is fine I guess, though it feels like that's been the story for a number of generations now... no real qualitative improvement in the hardware capability, just adding more of it to improve things and any other improvements are around the edges with upscaling and frame generation.
For me I'm now leaning towards skipping it.. it's not the "4K 120fps for everything" card I would want.
For the games where I'm well below 100fps (or even below 60fps) at 4K even with RT on and DLSS this isn't going to really move the bar. I'm still going to be turning off RT or dabbling in frame generation to make the game smooth.
|
From a value point t of veiw it is a 5% performance lift per dollar .. yikes. That's terrible. The 4090 was great because the cards saw no price increase for more performance. I also love water cooling so I'd have wait to see what blocks come out. I'm way to use too the quietness and 40 to 50c temps.
Glad I didn't sell the 4090 . It looks like a 4080 may be out of the question aswell unless I want all the extra frame gen down the line .
I did recently get a asus dual mode 32 so I can always just switch to 1080p

Wouldn't the 670E or 870E chipsets have more up to date expansion (like the 870E version of that motherboard has USB4, though it's not in stock at MemEx and is $60 more).

Yeah, those updated chipsets have more up-to-date expansion. Evaulating them vs my needs, I didn't feel that USB4 was necessary. Most of what I have is internal storage and I only use USB for peripherals like a keyboard or game controller charger. Unless there's more I'm missing or not seeing with what the updated chipsets have?

Yeah I'm the same, don't really use external storage. If the price was the same I'd get the newer one to satisfy the "just in case" part of me. But I agree I probably don't need twice the USB and SATA ports and the additional PCIe lanes aren't going to make a difference for my uses.

Ok guys, give me a hand. Need a new desktop. I'm not a gamer, but do need something for graphics, general surfing, video, etc. something fairly robust.
i7, 16g memory, 1TB fast storage, integral Wi-Fi 7? and Bluetooth.
Recommendations and help for a non nerd please

What's your budget? Custom or pre-built?

Up to $4.5k for a GPU? Cripes.
I'll stick with 4070tiS for the foreseeable future.

For the DIY build might go with an air cooler rather than an AIO just to remove any worry about water leaks (generally not an issue but also not impossible).
The Peerless Assassin or Phantom Spirit 120 EVO are good for the price.

Yeah I wouldn't get an AIO unless you're overclocking and running intensive tasks.
Wouldn't the 7900x be a better choice for CPU if he's not gaming?

This is definitely not the place for it and I'm not wanting to have a discussion about it so you can PM me if you want but I just purchased a new motherboard, processor, and RAM. So I have the following available if you want to purchase it at a reasonable price:
- 5800X3D
- MSI Tomahawk motherboard
- 32 GB of RAM (Trident Neo Z)
You'd just need to get video, cooling, storage, power, and a case.
I'm posting here so that other posters can comment if this would be a good idea or if it would be better to get more modern parts similar to what PsYcNeT posted.

I'm still running a 5900X CPU, works great, that seems like a good option as the 5000 era CPUs aren't slow by any means. 5800X3D is going to be what, 85% the speed of a 7800X3D?
