Yes - that's what I mean - members have to take on the CPC. CPC makes it difficult, so people give up. I don't know why they protect him.

Just say NO to Anders!

How are the poll stations? is it massive lineups like the municipal election?

Walter Wakula, former Tory riding president for Calgary West, will not be allowed to challenge incumbent wacko MP, Rob Anders, for nomination. Absolutely no reason was given for Wakula’s disqualification, leaving everyone to scratch their head noisily—an action that Tories seem to evoke quite easily these days.
Anders (who, incidentally, was my MP before I got the hell out of Calgary), is best known as the sole dissenter in giving Nelson Mandela honorary Canadian citizenship, calling the man a communist and a terrorist. Icrafting of flyers that linked crystal meth usage to “homosexual sex marriage” and mailing them to the wrong constituency. remember Anders more for his
So, why wouldn’t the conservative party allow a less controversial MP to run alongside Anders for the nomination when a clearly qualified former riding president is available?

I just voted for the green party. Figure the environmentalists can use the $2.

Is it $2.00 or $1.75?

Depends on the ridings and the leanings of said people who's votes are being surpressed. I don't think you can call the motive with the limited information. The Liberals face extinction, the Conservatives face a fate ranging from outright losing the election to a possible majority, and the NDP faces turning their poll support into actual support in enough numbers to either win official opposition or a minority government. There's motive everywhere.

Mine was empty, maybe 1 other person. But I went at 2pm. Now with everyone getting off work they will probably go to the polling stations and it will get crazy.

Expect a line-up I would think.

Well, considering the parties aren't allowed to advertise today, I'd suggest the Liberals have a lot to be gained by floated a bogus story through their friendly media outlet about their poor supporters being led astray. After all, nothing else they have done has had any effect whatsoever and if polling firms are to be believed (and I'm not saying they are) the Liberals are headed to a record low and embarassing third place finish.

On the other hand, the NDP is on the verge of actually becoming meaningful. Any seat they could steal from the Libs is another step towards respectability.

The Greens of course have no hope of anything and are likely not organized enough to figure out how to work a phone, so they are probably off the hook. Most likely, they are all prancing around in their Birkenstocks singing Kumbaya and putting flowers in each others hair. No wonder they can't get out the vote.

Yup, you're right. No one else possibly has anything to gain whatsoever from this.

I remember reading somewhere in the newspapers the past few days that the youth vote comes in two categories: University/college Students and the rest. Apparently it was found that voter turnout among the University/College bucket voted in the same turnout as the general population, but the rest had such an abysmal turnout it makes the whole age bracket look bad. So in order to meaningfully change the election you would need to grab the young non-post secondary crowd and win them over in a way the other parties cannot.

Is the local voter turnout for this election going to be more than the civic election in October?

Went in right around noon, was some people in there, but mostly empty, no lines to wait in.

"VOTE for CAM" was written in chalk on the sidewalk outside.

And yes I will stay in school. After a couple years off, I plan on starting an MA program next September.

I bet you would find that voter turnout in older age brackets is higher among the university educated as well.

Lol. You're one of the most condescending posters on this board. If you're going to dish it out, you should not complain when you have to take it.
