He's kinda right though. You need to trade quality to get quality. You can't just package 2 or 3 of your lower prospects and hope to get something good.

Yeah, it goes back to the definition of "untouchables". In my mind there should only be a select few, so the rest could be considered trade bait. However, it isn't as if they need to be in a hurry with any of these guys. Still rebuilding...

Bruce Garrioch said today that Buffalo, Edmonton, and Calgary have called Ottawa about Lehner while St. Louis and San Jose have called Ottawa about Anderson.

Is it just me, or has Lehner not really done anything to impress. I think he had ample opportunity to take the reigns in Ottawa, but never did over take Anderson and Hammond passed him by.

I should add that Steinberg also had Gillies in his list of tradeable assets. A bit of a head scratcher for me.

I don't get it at all. Gillies is a great prospect that the Flames should continue to develop.

drafted by the old regime, new regime drafts MacDonald. MacDonald is new regime guy, less attachment to players drafted by the old regime.
I don't think he's saying we should actively shop Gillies, more that we shouldn't list him as an untouchable. However as we have seen, teams rarely get good value back for goalies so he's probably more of value to us as a prospect than he would be in any trade scenario. Only way I can see it happening is if there is a deal out there for a top player and the other team insists on including Gillies - he won't be dealt for a bag of pucks.

That's actually been out before Garrioch made mention of it. Freidman yesterday maybe?

It's been rumoured for a little while now.
I'm not sure what the Flames see in him, but perhaps if we get a better return for Hiller than we give up for Lehner it would make sense.

Treliving driving up the price for Edmonton.
One thing Friedman said yesterday is that Treliving really wants to have his finger on the pulse of the market and know whats out there.
Which makes sense as the Flames have been linked with a lot of trade rumors on available players since he took the GM position.

You hit the nail on the head. It's his job to know what is going on.
He is awesome. Someday fans in other cities will wish they had a GM this good.

I really do appreciate the way he is a constant workhorse. Too early to judge his trades/drafting etc. but I think its clear that he expects/intends to be the hardest working GM in the league, which I admire.

He's not done anything to be awesome yet. Signs are all good though.

I recall Treliving saying something along the lines he didn't know James Neal was available last draft and wasn't happy about it

You're right, he has not done anything to be awesome. The Brodie contract was Godlike.
