Did you miss the part where Trump has been lying to the American people about foreigners paying the tariffs? He never says he's doing it for those reasons you mention. But Trump doesn't want his MAGA morons to catch on that everything they want to buy is more expensive because Trump put a massive tax on it, and Trump is collecting that tax and using it for...WTF is he using it for anyway?
Essentially this is just data confirming Trump is a lying liar who lies to his rubes. Which everyone already knows.

All this to protect dairy? Am I wrong?
Don’t they know all you need to do is publicly stroke Trump’s ego (among other things) and you can get him to agree to anything?
This is just so elementary it’s stupid.
I don’t know what Carney hoped to achieve with that Davos speech but if his intention was to trigger a tantrum by the baby in chief he got what he wanted.

It seems as though Trumps aides were finally able to dumb Carneys speech down enough for him to understand it (days later).
TACO will come again

- Placing a 100% tariff on all Chinese EVs, which in return, 85% tariffs placed onto our grain farmers.
- Dropped digital services tax
- Limited foreign steel imports
- Unilateral withdrawal of all retaliatory tariffs
- Supplied hundreds of millions of dollars for border security and fentanyl distribution, when Canada’s border infiltration is minimal compared to Mexico
All at the request of Americans.
But now, it’s an issue for the US when we accept autos because Trump openly stated he wants to ruin our automobile industry. Make that make sense.
What has this gotten us? Remind me again, you believe the sticking point is dairy? That accepting American dairy imports would stop this mad man? How many concessions does Canada have to allow to make Trump go away? Why are you so willing to give Americans everything they want? You’re more than welcome to hop into the washroom and let them keep ####ing you, if that’s your desire.

When you give Trump what he wants, it just emboldens him to ask for more. Everyone just doing what he wants is not the answer, and all you have to do is look at the mess that is the US, especially red states, to realize this.

Trump doesnt care about dairy or cars or farmers or manufacturing. He only cares about himself, being the center of attention and using the presidency to keep himself out of jail and making money.

Trump is one the biggest pussies in human history, too bad TAPO doesn't work cause TACO is being too kind to him. Also, we know how to get him to reverse course on anything, just manipulate the bond markets and boom the child rapist folds. It's been clockwork since his return.

This is a very short term strategy. It ends with you giving him everything to stop keep the tantrums at bay. Have you not dealt with a toddler before?
Carney knows this, and knows no matter what we do, there is a #### storm. So we may as well take the wheel and find a way throguh it that doesn't involve punching a hole in our hull every time Trump tantrums. Those add up to nothing good.
It sucks this is all so ####ty, but it is not the fault of our leaders. We just have to find the best way to deal with it, and I;'m happy to see Carney isn't falling under his control.

“What did Carney hope to achieve?”
Have people not been paying attention over the last 10+ years regarding who Trump is? Caving to Trump is weak, Trump is a baby and a bully. You can’t negotiate in good faith with a Nazi clown who has serious psychological issues and deep cognitive impairment.
And if Carney didn’t give a speech or he gave a different, ass kissing speech, we’d still see complaints from the same people.

You might be happy to have a discussion but are you capable? Comments like “all this to protect dairy” and “he got what he wanted” from the speech are really embarrassing for anyone to actually think, let alone say.
As the Canada vs US rhetoric has really ramped up around here I’ve tried to observe more than I speak, or at least choose where I weigh in very carefully, because I’m not going to feel things the same as most people here, but one thing I can’t get over is Canadians (generally those who have spent way too much time rationalizing, excusing, or even supporting Trump) being all too willing to act and been seen as totally subservient to Trump and the US.
Way too many comments about giving him what he wants, not doing anything as individuals that the US might catch wind of and get angry about, still whining about Trudeau (lol) or treating Canada like some bad actor in all this.
Anyone thinking like this needs to grow a spine. It’s pathetic.
It’s fine to be scared. Doesn’t mean you should rush to kiss the ring and sell out your country without anyone asking you to.

Trump was asked about the new Canada/China deal just a few days ago, and told reporters that he had no problem with it, and that it was a smart move by Canada.
This latest tantrum is clearly just about his ego being shattered after he was upstaged by Carney in Davos. He can’t handle not being the centre of attention, and is obviously jealous and annoyed by how well Carney’s speech was received, and how much his own speech was widely mocked.

Trump might be dealing with big feelings right now, but it’s his handlers trying to stomp out and Canadian independence/defiance, and as usual using as an example for the world.
