The reverse is, Gulutzan's great record was the early part of his career and it's been trending down ever since. We gave Gulutzan the benefit of doubt with regards to his record in Dallas, just like teams gave Gallant and AV for their times in Columbus and Montreal, but both of those guys actually went out and turned their careers around before landing other head coaching gigs. Gulutzan didn't, he's been trending down since Dallas.
In what direction has Peter's teams been trending? How much stock do you put in the 2016 World Championships?
|
I personally put a lot of stock into not just the World Championships but the fact Peters gets frequently tagged by Hockey Canada. Gold at Under 18s, World Championships and the World Cup. Shows me he can work with elite players and is highly respected by Hockey Canada. That matters to me.
I'm not drawing a parallel between anyone. personally think that's flawed because every coach is different, but all I was saying is AV and Gerrard in their first head coach stint didn't have success and it didn't work. The Canes are Peter's first job so why do we assume he is trending down but those guys trending up after their first jobs?
Peters is not Gulutzan. Mike Sullivan would have looked pretty similar to Gulutzan on paper too when the Pens hired him. World out pretty well. Let's see what happens, but personally I think there is more in Peters background to be excited about then there was Gultuzan's.

But I will be so goddamn upset if things don't work out, and we had a chance to hire Sutter, AV and a bunch of other proven veteran coaches who we could of had. Very upset.
At least the off-season will be interesting and active on CP with a ton of bickering back and forth about whether it was the right decision or not.
|
I just don't like the speed everything is moving at if it is Peters. You'd think BT would send feelers out to AV/Sutter/Tippett over a 3 day job search.

Peters resigns in Carolina. Obviously has options elsewhere. I'd prefer it was not Calgary.

LOL. After all the "why isn't GG fired already" and "why isn't AV hired already" this is funny (not aimed at you.
I repeat what I said above - I've heard they didn't interview AV or Sutter. That doesn't mean the feelers weren't sent out and they got a "not interested" for whatever reasons. That would be a lot harder info for reporters to find out than interviews. Tippett I imagine wasn't a consideration.

Any chance Peters would leave Carolina for an assistant coach role on a Canadian team?

"Interest by multiple clubs" is a positive for Peters. He's not my choice - I wanted a big name. But I'm open minded.

I think we need to come to terms with this being the plan. Gulutzan was removed because Peters was going to be available. Treliving liked the way his team played but needed something that he thought pushed them over that hump or pushed the right buttons. he thinks this is it. There was never going to be any interviews. There were no other considerations. This was it.
(Unless Peters isn't the guy in which case discard all that )

Yeah it sounds like the Rangers may be talking to Peters as well....they are looking for a developmental type coach.

The only coach I know anything about is Sutter, and I feel his style of play may not fit the current roster. So I voted for AV since he has the best track record out of the other options.

The Hurricanes were always well coached
Not Peters’ fault the GM made like 1 trade in 5 years and failed to fix their goaltending issues. He did well with what he had.

This could be coincidental, but does seem like Peters could be the guy in Calgary. I don't know much about him besides what I read, but you would have to think that Treliving will be damn sure he picks the right guy to move this team forward as his job will be on the line if this team doesn't make big strides next year.

The pressure will be less in New York because they are in a stated rebuild.
Peters could miss the playoffs for a year or two there.
If he comes to Calgary and misses the playoffs, he and Tre are gonzo.

For every veteran "elite" coach this is hired to take a team above where they were, another one is hired that doesn't work out. I am open to giving Peters a chance before freaking

He better at this point.
I don't know what we get with Peters. His resume is not very flattering. Hope that I am wrong.
Interesting that we go with a crusty guy after firing one for that very reason. Good on Tre to admit to a mistake.

I'm seeing posters throw around the term "hockey guy" like that means something. Ooh, he's a "hockey guy", so he must be some kind of hockey oracle?
I've worked in enough industries to know there's high-ranking idiots in suits in all of them. There's idiots on CP, too, but there's also some posters who actually know what they're talking about. Not claiming to be one of them, just pointing out that it's absurd to assume that a "hockey guy" has some kind of authority over a poster on a message board.
