What is cultured stone?
But my thoughts went to those old houses that had broken glass in the outer walls and if it's the same. Ouch.

Cultured Stone is a manufactured stone made from cement and aggregate. I toured the plant earlier this summer in Napa.

had heat pumps installed on Monday, and noticed that one of the guys drilled in to my hard wood and damaged the floor. the company was quick to send a carpenter to repair. this is the final repair:
I'm not really satisfied with the repair. No idea what to do next. Do I insist they replace the boards damaged? Send the guy back? They've offered free cleaning of my heat pumps for 2 years but I think the cleaning can be done on our own and that's a scam the installing companies use to try and extract more money.
I'm interested in others thoughts

I would not consider that a final repair!
A small inlay of matching wood stained the same colour can be done in an hour. It will still be noticeable if you know it’s there but it will look 1000% better than that.

How some people run their business makes my head shake. Who would think that is a final and appropriate repair? I could do that. Which means it is not good.

I called a place in town that does hardwood repair and I'm going to go back to them and say hey this is what it cost for them to repair it and then ask for it to be deducted off of my bill. As a outside possibility if they really push on me I could just do a dispute with my credit card after I pay and have them take off the extra amount I'm not sure if that's a proper use of the dispute process but anyway. Yeah I'm definitely going to push for something else to be done because this does not look acceptable

Sounds like a real gear grinder. Credit card disputes aren’t really meant for that though, and I don’t think you can just ask the credit card to deduct a certain amount from your bill.

Credit card disputes are for when you contact a vendor about a legitimate error and they refuse to correct that error.
I agree that using credit card disputes for a discount on damage they did to your home isn't appropriate. You likely wouldn't be successful either without essentially lying about the scenario.

Is the company on google reviews? Threaten them with truthful reviews.

It's been pointed out to me that dumping the contents of my paper shredder into an Amazon box before sending in a return amounts to a dick move.
Is it though? Is it worse than going out and buying bubble wrap or packing paper?
If I have non-recycled newspapers or something laying around, I'd use those. I'm pretty quick to get rid of that kind of stuff, though.

I was just thinking it would be a funny prank to pull on someone on CP have hundreds of thanks for a post that's a normal, not funny or insightful post. Something that would make the person go to sleep that night wondering "wtf am I missing? Why'd that get 430 thanks?"

Send them the quote before you repair. There likely is a line in the T+Cs that you have to give them the opportunity (and probably even after they screwed it up the first time)
