Shapo vs. Paire should be starting shortly.

Damn... I watched the first couple of games and Shapo looked fine. Come back and he's lost the set 6-3 in under 40 minutes. What the hell happened?

lol - I did the same thing (watched a few games, went to the grocery store thinking Shapo was looking fine and then discover he lost the first set). Up a break in set 2 currently serving at 4-3

A beautiful backhand passing shot and Denis breaks at love to start the 3rd set. Paire fires a ball into the crowd and gets a warning lol

Paire is melting down and it's hilarious.

Yeah apparently the problem was that Shapo was devastated to learn that neither of us were watching, because he's been quite good, particularly in rallies.
The serve is, as usual, inconsistent. I don't understand why that, of all things, would be so hard to fix, but it seems like this is just who he is.
EDIT: Oh and Paire being Paire indeed... just incoherently screaming when he misses shots. Very uncomfortable.

Denis was up 40-love and missed a sitter at the net. Four points later and Paire breaks to get back on serve.

Wow, what a rally... 33 shots, 30 of them were bombs.

Oh man, a couple of fortunate returns by Denis and he breaks Paire.

I mean I guess they were fortunate, but they were just... good shots. Denis goes for winners, sometimes he's gonna get them. I don't really understand why he keeps holding up his hand to apologize for it. You made 'em, you don't have to be sorry about it.
This is a big service game to consolidate after losing the earlier break. He's been having a ton of trouble getting his first serves in. EDIT: Yep, can't keep it together. So frustrating.

Well, that evens the sitter missed at the net count in this set. What a break for Shapo.

... Not yet it doesn't, he was up 40-0 in that game too... phew. Okay.
I just don't know if he can win a tie break with his serve being so inconsistent like this.

Edit: Two match points saved.
Edit 2: Three match points saved.

Paire wins on the 4th match point. Frustrating tennis from Shapo, he should have not lost this match.

Can't save the fourth.
Pretty good match to watch, although messy at times. The turning point was definitely that missed shot at net at 2-1 40-0, but in that last service game Denis had 6 game points to send it to a tiebreak and lost all of them. Two were double faults. It's the same old story - if he could just get his serve working consistently he'd be great. Until then, this stuff is going to keep happening.
