Didn't watch the game last night, where did it go wrong? Are the O's THAT good or are the Jays just struggling everywhere?

Bassit gave up a couple 2 run homers in the 2nd/3rd and the floodgates opened up. So once again it all came down to our pitching sucking

One of those outings for Bassit that seems to happen every few starts. Jays season is going to come down to starting pitching figuring themselves out.

Ive said it many times before - fire Pete Walker

I think it's always safe to look at the pitchers and say "Are they getting Better under the coach, or worse"

And for Walker it's been a bit of a mixed back to be honest.

Some guys seem to thrive under him...Estrada, Happ, Ray, Gausman.

But I'd say more guys seem to regress under him...Romero, Morrow, Stroman, Sanchez, Manoah, Berrios...

And my worry is that guys that seem to have success only seem to be the 30+ year old veterans. All these young guys have come up, have a good first season or two and then as they get more time with Walker they seem to get worse.

That would be my worry. Young guys don't seem to get better under him, they get worse.

Same old story, Jays are a good team stuck in a tough division where the other AL east teams just seem to be.....better.

Pitching is fine. They lead MLB in K/9 and are top 5 in ERA and xFIP. They give up too many home runs though, they give up the 5th most HR's in MLB. Maybe a touch too many walks too, they rank 12th in MLB with BB/9.

Hitting is also fine. Pretty much right in line with last season in many, many categories, but they aren't hitting for enough power.

So basically, they are getting "out powered" which is funny because for the last few seasons everybody thought they relied on the long ball too much, now the lack of it is really hurting them.

Jays offense is:

2nd in MLB in batting average
3rd in MLB in on base percentage

but

12th in MLB in slugging percentage

5th in MLB in wRC+
4th in offensive fWAR

Jays are on pace 88 wins right now despite a 6-16 record against the AL east

LOL

If the Jays care about his long term future they would sit him down for a bit. He is god awful right now.

Wouldn't be the worst thing if the Rays/O's continue to gain a lead and we have a hard time getting out of this funk. Might have to have this season as a write off.

The lack of power is the story really. Just a lot of singles and not any doubles or bombs to really make a team pay for allowing all those Jays base runners. It’s frustrating as the makings are there for a very good team. Will Vlad’s knee recover in time to propel this team forward? Is it his knee? We have to start winning these divisional games.

That was a depressing stat.

4 games vs Orioles. The Orioles have scored 31 runs in those 4 games.

Sigh. Remember when Vladdy hit 48 homeruns and a 470' bomb at the all-star game? Now he just slaps the odd single and makes base running mistakes.

C'mon Jays. Get some freaking runs before they go to their numerous high velocity, plus stuff bullpen arms and that mule called Felix Bautista.
