From what I remember, early on, one of the insiders said it was unlikely the Flames would be able to sign Kadri unless the market for him shifted (i.e., his price came down).
We're coming up on two weeks since free agency opened. It wouldn't be surprising if the market has shifted for him (or he has been waiting for Colorado to clear room, and they haven't done it).

That was also before we added Huberdeau and Weegar. I can easily see a move like that changing his stance on the team.

Something we consistently see with signings - players want to be where they’re wanted.
Kadri knows the Flames have wanted him for 3 years. Everyone knows Calgary has wanted Kadri for 3 years.
Kadri also wants to go to a place that has a chance…a week ago? I don’t think people would have viewed what was going on in Calgary as anything but a tire fire. Now? Weegar and Huberdeau are open to extensions (and Huby says his agent is already talking to Brad about it). If we manage to snag Kadri? This may be the best roster I’ve seen the Flames have since the 80s/really early 90s.
…and that’s after losing 104 and 115 point forwards. Which is baffling.

Do you happen to know who reported that? I've seen a lot of posts saying that he said it, but I can't remember seeing the original source.

On today’s TSN Overdrive they mentioned they believe Calgary is one of the teams still in on Kadri. So perhaps there has been a “chance of heart”

If Treliving signs extensions, signs Kadri and less Lucic and/or Monahan he’s somewhere between Gandalf and Dumbledor.

Get that Harry Potter stuff outta here.
Brad Treliving is Gandalf the Grey, and if he pulls off extensions and Kadri? He will have come back to us now at the turn of the tide. Mithrandir will have gone full Gandalf the White on us.

I retract Dumbledor and replace with (a) Dr. Strange; (b) Ganondorf; or (c) Michael Jordan

I have to say, Huberdeau, Weegar and Kadri would look good in the battle of Alberta.
Here's a question - who is Calgary's face-puncher if they move Lucic out? I know, I know, the league has changed and teams don't need goons anymore. Still, I enjoy the game a little more knowing there is a nuclear deterrent sitting on the Flames bench. At least Kassian is gone from Shelbyville.

Other than Kassian who were the Oilers face punchers.
Guys who can lay the body are more valuable in the playoffs. Lucic was too slow to do damage. I felt Kassian and Archibald did more damage than Lucic
No Johnny this team overall is tougher too. Huberdeau can be chippy. Kadri as well. We don’t need lucic and his 5 mins a game

Sign Kadri, Huberdeau and Weegar long term might be painful 5+ years from now, but boy would be exciting going into next season.

The need for Lucic was greater when we had Johnny
Weegar likes to throw the body and Huberdeau is a power forward. This team would be less soft imo even without lucic

I would love to get Kadri. We need more strength up the middle, and Sutter would like him. I feel like the next move might be trading one of our D, instead of going the UFA route, though.

Also, it was a week and a half ago and he still isn't signed, so that is something that could certainly change hearts.

Nothing super solid but I also heard some info today that the Flames and some of their players are trying to sway Kadri.
It makes sense... he would shore up their center group a lot.

I like Kylington but Weegar is going to take his spot
Zadorov will anchor the 3rd unit but imo kylingtons cap hit can be used at forward. Valimaki too. I’d be ok with Mackey Gilbert and Meloche being in and out of the lineup
Trade Lucic or Monahan
Trade Kylington
That’s $12 to 13 mil to sign Mangiapane and Kadri
Might be able to keep Valimaki if you get those 2 for less than $13 mil

He’s had 10 fights in his career, about 1 per season, including one last year.
Lucic has had 85 in his career, including 15 with Calgary.
