Heat win over Rochester 1-0. Irving stops 29 shots and Stone scores, assisted by Brodie and Seabrook.

At some point the Flames are gonna have to give kids like Brodie, Nemisz and Irving a chance. Those kids are for real.

It might be next year. The cap/roster situation in 2011-12 likely means that guys like Pelech and Irving get a shot.

am curious how the flames handle the karlsson/irving backup situation next season, as karlsson becomes a UFA, and Irving an RFA.

He is the best overall Dman in Abby. Although Pelech is definitely stronger defensively, Brodie is an offensive gamebreaker.

I thought Playfair said Seabrook might be our best overall d-man in Abby so far this year?

Actually I guess you could call him Abbys Bouwmeester. Pelech is their Regehr, but Brodie is Abbotsfords Drew Doughty.
At least, that's what I see when I watch the games.

Curious
Getting news about Abby is impossible here. Any talk about Playfair moving back up to NHL level at all?

No real surprises for World Juniors:
John Ramage is on Team USA. Joni Ortio is on Team Finland. Tim Erixon is on Team Sweden. Howse was the only Flame prospect cut.

Erixon is having a great season so far in the SEL! Lidstrom-esque numbers while he was in the SEL before playing in the NHL...
N. Lidstrom 1990-91 SEL 38GP - 4G - 19A - 23PTS
T. Erixon 2010-11 SEL 30GP - 3G - 12A - 15PTS
Lids played in the NHL after the season shown above and potted 60PTS. Just saying...

Ramage is a darkhorse for me IMO. Could be a big steal going forward.

I've often thought, "Wouldn't it be great if Erixon-an understated, steady d-man-could turn into a Lidstrom..."
Just saying also...
(But it would be great!)

Flames dont have a blue chip Weber or Suter but the D prospects IMO are just extremely solid depth wise. keep in mind Weber developed a ton AFTER being drafted as well, which looks to be the case for guys like Brodie and Erixon.

Yeah to the bolded part.
Looking at our D prospects, I'm hoping that we have a couple of real gems coming.
Even if guys the likes of Brodie, Erixon and Seabrook can turn into anything like Gio (who was never drafted), we'd be laughing.

I'm curious about that also. If Irving keeps playing as he is, it will be hard to keep him down.
Although I don't know who would be a good trading partner for the Flames regarding Kipper (Tampa?), maybe it will be Karlsson and Irving next year as the Flames goalies. Or, can they get a forward prospect equal to Irving's ability as a goalie?
