I ran out and threw a blanket over the wifes car. I didn't get to my car, cuz holy $#!T that stuff hurt like hell. I can't feel one of my fingers after it took a wicked hit by a ping-pong sized piece of hail.
I was only able to save 1 of my 3 planters, as it went from intermittent pea-sized to rapid grape-sized in about 3 seconds.
I was dogsitting at my parent's in Evergreen, good thing as they have a garage I could put my car in, but so much for their planters and garden. I was just able to cover their BBQ when the big hail really started coming down.
That was one of the most amazing storms that I've ever been in. When that stuff started bouncing off my head, I fled back inside. I was pretty worried that I'd catch one in the eye.
I like how it always seems I'm standing on my hilltop aerie southwest of the city, looking at these massive storms forming over my head or just to the northwest . . . . and then . . . . . Calgary just seems to suck them up and I get nothing.

We were in our backyard last night (in somerset) and heard a very unique rumble. I thought it might be rain but it was just so loud. Once we got onto macleod trail I figured it out pretty quick:
This must not have been the same severity as Bridlewood, as i have no car damage. It was so effing loud. You can sort of hear me and my wife talking, but we couldn't really hear each other. What's odd is our 10 month old in the back seat just seemed to be taking it all in stride.
Side note: iPhone 4 takes very wide videos ... she's holding it in portrait orientation so the video just looks very tall. I want to pull the video off the phone tonight because the hail hitting the windshield looks very cool in HD. I uploaded straight from the phone so the quality is garbage.
this is what we had in bridlewood for 15 minutes! hood of my truck now looks like a golf ball
Yikes, we are away on vacation but I had a buddy drive by our place in Bridlewood after the storm. He tells me I may want to call for a quote on my roof. We have taken an ass-kicking by hail this summer for sure.

Already have the insurance co. involved. damaged siding, dented truck and van. can't see mu roof, but can only imagine that there is the odd bald patch. Speaking of bald, i found a 2 little birds out back this morning (after the hail mound melted) dead, one was missing all of his feathers on one side of his body! must have caught a big stone just right. at least it was quick
