North Centre Inn - Peepers
Provincial Liquor stores...closed early Saturday (Mall hours) and Sunday meant had to properly plan for weekend binges. One was in Southcentre where Chili's is.
The beer store at the old brewery on 9th Ave.
Crazy Crazy Electronics...somwhere on Edmonton Trail?
Back to the Superman 3, it was GCS that Richard Prior slid off of, landing on 9th Ave.
Also, in the official trailer, the car that hits the fire hydrant is on 2nd St just past 7th Ave.
No elementry school year was complete without a visit to the Energieum.
CFAC had an "encore" channel.
Civic channel, which showed City Council proceedings, then the rest of the day was filled with crude graphics (think the +15 logo) that refreshed every few minutes, talking about city events or notices.
The real estate channel and the auto trader tv.
When channels that you didn't pay for on your converter box were in weird scrambled format...TSN, Superchannel.

Wait a second... I live(d) next to Nickle and its former 7-11 and I also went to Beaverbrook. That's about a 1.5-2 hour walk. Now you could have taken the bus or driven, but why would you go all that way when there was a 7-11 right by Beaverbrook on Bonaventure Drive?
I'm not doubting you but why would you go to the Nickle 7-11 for lunch if you attended Beaverbrook?

I don't think anybody has mentioned this yet.
- Kart Indoor Grand Prix go karts on 16th ave where crossroads market was great. The cars would go about 50-60 km/hr at peak speed
I remember in the dead of winter, in -30, me and my buddies would go there just to let loose and race in a controlled environment when everybody outside was driving like idiots in the snow and ice.
It was super cheap too... Something like a dollar a lap which is probably why they went under because it was so affordable.
Another nastalgic thing for me as a kid was:
- the two red racing slides and village square leisure centre. Those were tons of fun but super dangerous for anybody swimming nearby.

How about back in the day when The Score was "Sports scope" which was basically just a constant scoreboard - no video or anything. Just scores.
Before the interwebs it was actually quite handy.

when you could put a quarter in a parking meter downtown, and if you snapped the handle, just right, you would get unlimited parking time.

Great way to spend summer evenings all around.
Saw Alex Rodriguez hit a monster home run against the Cannons, just before he got to the majors. Another year, I went to a Mariners game in Seattle and eight of the ten guys in the Mariners lineup had played in Calgary in the previous two years.
These days, I check out the Dawgs in Okotoks once in a while as I life southwest of the city.

Outdoor minor hockey. I remember travelling from Southwood to play games in Braeside and Acadia. Some nights were so cold, the dressing room was full of crying kids with frozen toes. I don't think I played at an indoor rink until I was about 10 or 11.
When it wasn't real cold, it was nice playing under the stars.

Dawgs are a Summer College League. Good ball for an awesome price.
Vipers are some crap league that no one cares about, but still entertaining. Golden league I believe

You just took me back 15 years lol. Get some new docs, then go to the Attic and pay $55 for a burned copy of a crappily bootlegged live cd. I still have this kick ass Gillian Anderson poster I bought there years ago.

The first ten years of my life were spent living in the NE. One of my fondest memories is the Village Square Leisure Center. I took swimming and skating lessons there, as well went to classes at the library and that's where my pre-school was. I remember the little mall connected to the Co-op had the greatest fast food place. I can't remember the name of it, but they made the best rippled fries. The Co-op hardware store was also where I bought my first frisbee and soccer ball. Great memories.
