I disagree. I thought that the episode nicely expanded the characters a bit more and showed a bit of the Australian/New Zealand perspective. Constant mortar assaults get repetitive and this episode helped change it up.
Also, Bow Chicka Wow Wow.

I couldn't disagree more. I thought it was an excellent episode.

Damn, too bad we didnt get to see any boob action with the blonde chick.
I though this was one of those episodes that needed to happen to give these characters some perspective and personality. The first two episodes were too thin on depth....we just had snapshots of cliched scenes with a bunch of supposedly shell shocked pretty boys who we as viewers were supposed to sympathize with right off the bat.....in the end I found I didn't really care about any of them. Hell I could barely tell them apart.
This episode finally started creating a connection between the viewer and the characters. Now when curly haired dude goes into battle, I can at least cheer for him to live and sure show that greek girl whats what.
Plus if 3 Justin 3 hated it, you know it's gotta have some merit.

I think it was a very good episode, and not for the nudity. The mini-series needs to be accurate in its historical detail. It's what happened and it needed to be represented in the mini-series. I now know the characters better so it was good for character development.

? I didn't hate it because it was slow. Currahee was super slow as well but it was much better. I didn't think this episode developed the characters that well. All it established was Lecky was a drunk.

Without a doubt the charaters needed more development, which is why the first two episodes were so hollow. This unfortunately could have been better, nudity notwithstanding. I didn't see any chemistry between naked chick and Lecky, and I didn't particularly like Lecky.
Regardless, just knowing him and this relationship will make it more gripping down the road when he's in peril, but now we're 30% done the series and so far it's been pretty lame.
Mr. War Bond Salesman is going to be a fairly boring story line I'm guessing. He'll probably start drinking, go through an emotional struggle over how he feels inadequate for not being in the war, etc., etc., boring, boring.

I wasn't a huge fan of last nights episode. It was a little slow for me and I don't think they developed enough characters. The thing that hooked me about BoB is the amount of characters you felt attached to, even a few episodes in.

I own BOB and have watched it through multiple times.. and so far for me Pacific > BOB.
The only thing BOB has up on the Pacific so far is Winters... I would rate Basilon (guy who got the medal of honour) in the same level of awesomeness as Lt. Spiers with the stunts he pulled in episode 1 and 2.
Something tells me that Sledge is going to play a huge role in this all before its over as well.
Oh and btw I thought last nights episode was the best one yet.

Last night's episode was barely better than a Doctor Quinn Medicine Woman episode.
But seriously, I'm really surprised you like this better than BoB. You have to be the only one that thinks that.

That was an excellent episode. There was an actual story there instead of snippets of fighting. It helped develop the characters and gave a real sense of the war and the far reaching affects it had. It also told a story of the American military in Australia which I doubt many of us knew anything about. The night scene in the garden with Leckie and "Mama" was very well done, you just wanted to hug her and saying everything is going to be ok. Stella making the decision to give up on someone she is falling in love with to make things easier on her parents would have been very tough.
GL - I suspect you're right about Sledge, he'll play a more prominent role towards the end because Leckie is injured in the battle of Peleliu so he won't be a key part of the last few episodes. The story is also based on Leckie's and Sledge's books so you know he's gotta play a part at some point!

Thank you. The War Bond Salesman plot line is going to play out a lot like Flags of Iwo Jima (I think that's what it's called) I think.
Next week will be all plot/character development too I assume, as it will showcase Sledge in training camp and Basilone (sp?) selling war bonds.

Yeah, you better not watch it.
EP 4:

Having finally been listed as a marine, Sledge is sent to Camp Elliot to train for battle. The 1st Marine Corps ships out to battle the Japanese who are holding an island off New Britain called Cape Gloucester. The marines fight bravely, but find the jungle to be the greatest enemy. Leckie having survived Cape Gloucester begins to show the effects of combat and is sent to a naval psychiatric hospital.

I agree that this show is freaking awesome, but how it compares to BoB is still up for debate. I like where the show is going and they're sticking close to the actual accounts that took place instead of going overboard by glorifying the battle scenes. The selling of war bonds by Basilone is an important story, and it's not about 'playing out' like Flags of our Fathers because that's what actually happened.
In three episodes we have watched some pretty intense battles and now they have pretty much introduced the main characters. Not bad.

I thought it was a great episode. It really tried to show what these guys had been through and how important it was too some of them to not only blow off some steam but also not die a virgin. Both of my granddads fought in the war and they both told me that on leave - hooking up, falling in love and sometimes getting married was an accelerated process because they didn't know if they would get a second crack at it.

Not too many complaints from me, seems to me most complaints are people wanting it to be more hollywood fantasy based. I like the storyline so far.

I would say he is talking about people wanting it to be all action all the time, not just here but people I have talked to say that is what they were looking for and expecting. I am actually eagerly awaiting the end of the series so I can pick up the memoirs that it was based off of and not have it feel like I spoiled the show for myself - granted I guess I might have spoiled the books.... but bah!
