With my new found information from Joborule, how about we do a 87 game season, which is where we play each other 3 times each?
No conferences/divisions, just 3 times each.

I'd be fine with that, but there's going to need to be a schedule unless we just play with whoever is online.

Oh the games thing I already knew, my big thing is trades. Can we trade players or not?

You probably will read it since you asked Jobo, but if you allow it, then we can trade players.

Yep yep, trades are a go!
(Unless people don't want them.)
What I think we should do is just use reality as our basis for everything. Rules, options, etc. If it happens in the NHL, it should be in our league too.
What do you guys think?

I think trades should be a go and people should be able to do what they want. Also, if there's fantasy draft online...we should really do that....yes, it makes our own personal team draft nothing more than a jersey draft, but the league will be better if we do.

Can someone explain exactly how this league works?
From the other thread I gather it's more like a long tournament?
Do we simply pick a # and play everyone that many times. Best record wins? Are there playoffs? Does the winner win the Stanley Cup?

jobo confirms there is no fantasy draft. you start with whatever the current online rosters are, but can trade from there on out.

For trades, I believe you can only do 1 for 1, or 2 for 2. NO draft picks, and you can't trade D for F (I think). The trading is really brutal in these games and very simplistic. I don't know if they changed it at all. But you CAN'T trade 3 players for 1.
As for how the league works. Do we want playoffs, top 16 players continue, bottom 14 are out? Or do we want to just play 87 games (or how ever many we choose), and just do it as 1vs30, 2vs29, 3vs28, etc. ?
How many games do we want? I suggested 87 as it's the closest we can have to 82 games, and I say that because that lets us play each other 3 teams each. I think that is more fair than playing as if we were in the conferences (Flames playing Oilers 3 times now, rather than 6, etc.).
But if we can do that 3 for 1 player trades, I suggest we keep them.
As for the schedule, if everyone is cool with a 87 game season, someone should go to a generator site, and generate a schedule (if possible), where we play each other 3 times.

I thought the league would be a kind of free-for-all where you could play any team until you reach the max # of games against that team.
Does anyone know how it works?

if we play eachother 3 times each. thats 29 poeple, 87 games.... assuming games are 15 minutes of icetime, then add time for penalties and OT, every game is going to be close to 25 minutes long.... thats 36+ hours of gametime.
There is no way in hell that you can assume that this will work unless it is fewer games.
30 people on this board are not hardcore enough games to dedicate 36 hours of gaming of one game of one mode.
Hate to be the person to make this apparent, but it needs to be considered.
PS i play a lot of NHL and I wont be playing 36 hours of online

If we somehow can keep the league running until april then I see no problem with 87 games. Ultimately its going to come down to everyone's evening schedule

I thought we were doing it like the NHL. 87 games is only 5 more than they play in the NHL, and as someone mentioned that spreads it out until March/April. It isn't like these games take 3 hours a day. They can be played in <45 minutes. I don't think that is too much to ask. Play 3 games a week, or if you can, fit in like 10 in a week.
